|
|
I just got a Zumo 550 to replace my Ipaq and TT6. I installed the cameras using POI loader and set the proximity to ON for "Custom POIs".
Now, whenever I exceed the speed limit, even if no cameras are around, I get a constant "bong-bong" and a red line at the top of the Zumo.
If I turn off proximity alerts, it all goes away, but, of course, I get no noise when I am approaching a camera.
I have just deleted all the cameras and re-installed them using the potentially excellent Camera Manager - which changed the alerts from distance to timed.
So, what I want to know is do I re-enable proximity alerts or not? WHat I want is for it to behave like TomTom in alerting me.
Any help appreciated

Does this "red line" contain some text? - it should be the name of the POI that triggered the alert, which will help you track down the culprit(s). |

Yes, but I cannot remember what it said - just something about a 40 limit - which was odd because we were in a 70 at the time (and I was doing around 65)

Could it have been referring to a road you'd just gone over (or under)?. Sometimes, it gets a bit confused as to which road you're actually on. |

So, it turns out that Garmins are actually quite stupid! The camera was on the other carriageway which was in a 40 (roadworks) and I was getting "bonged" by the Zumo even though I was allowed to do 70 going my way.

as would virtually every sat nav...! there's not many devices that will use the directional data - at the moment the one's i'm aware of are igo (2006+ & 8), copilot7 and drivesmart (which doesn't navigate). garmin's own database is directional BUT they do not allow this function for 3rd party providers.
