Just to let you know that we now have over 318,000 POIs available for download - over triple the amount that we launched this renewed initiative with in December 2006. A huge amount of work (hopefully mostly enjoyable) for all those involved. A big THANK YOU to all who have helped so far!
Keep sending 'em in! _________________ Robert Brady |

I submitted a POI with over 300 locations, detailing the Historic Scotland properties, locations taken from their website.
But that was on the 29th of May, but have heard nothing since, approx how long does it take for a POI category to be added? |

If you did, then it has to join the queue for checking.
Mostly individual submissions are checked first. This can take some time so just be patient. 7 days is not a long time.
You won't be notified personally that it has been accepted, ..... it will just appear. _________________ Richard

Yeah, I got the email.
I was just wondering if there would be any feedback if changes were required.
Thanks for the reply. |

Is there are a problem with the server at the moment? If I try to download anything and change to "Combine subcategories into category file" I just get a blank screen when I click on download (using firefox). Safari gives me a "Can't open page" error. IE7 gives me a "cannot display the webpage" error. |

I've just tried and its working for me. Have you tried either to download individual subcategories or reducing the number of subcategories? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I can download individual subcategories ok. I just keep getting an error when trying to download the combined category. I want to download "Fuel" as an entire category - sometimes you just want to see where the nearest petrol station is without having to search through 30 different poi categories!
It was working fine yesterday. I've tried from home and work but no joy. Either get a blank screen or a tcp error. |

As the Fuel POI category contains more than 20 individual files this is your problem, download the Fuel POI in two parts, the first containing 20 entrys, the second containing what is missing.
With the two files on your PC you can then use POIEdit to append the second file to the first one thus creating a single POI file containing the whole lot - Mike |

You must be downloading OV2 Files.
There is a well documented problem with the OV2 generation, that limits the number of subcategories to 20.
The current favourite workaround is to download in batches of 20, or less, and then merge them into one File with POIEdit. _________________ Richard

Thank you - downloading in batches of 20 did the trick! |

Any reason why a note about this issue cannot be posted right next to the download button? It crops up quite often.
(or maybe below the special notes for Nuvi and i3 users?) |

It's a free service and our servers are not geared up to such demands as combining large categories. I have now added a note to the download page but if this continues to be a problem I'll remove the option to combine categories completely as it causes a huge server load and prevents other users from accessing downloads. _________________ Darren Griffin |
