|
|
Hi
I've just joined and admit I'm a novice!
I have successfully loaded the latest database with Garmin POILoader to my nuvi however when I look at the map onscreen, all cameras are shown as a grey dot, not the bmp camera icons that I also downloaded too. The POI alerts are on and warn me of an upcoming camera so is there something else I have missed?
Thanks

OK. Which database did you install - Single File, Consolidated or Speed Zoned?
Did you change anything at all?

Did you download seperate BMPs for the database? If so, which one? What pixel size?
Also can you try using the BMPs that came in the download and re-send them to the Garmin. |

Hi, thanks for the swift response. Here is some more info...
I have downloaded the speed zoned individual camera file latest version ended cams-vXXX. I then extracted the csv's and bmp's to a POI folder on the PC, combined with the other POI's from the site (restaurants etc). I then used POIloader which successfully put approx 150k files to the nuvi without changing any files.
I only used the original bmp's from the zoned download 22x22 pixels. The nuvi is bang up to date with software from Garmin on version 4.2 and I have used two different releases from the last couple of weeks with exactly the same results.
Hope that helps!

I notice you have added "150k files ". Can you confirm all the other POIs show up OK? What if you load the Speed Camera Database on it's own? |

Now we're getting somewhere!
The other POI's do appear under the CustomPOI's folder with the cameras when all files are loaded. However when I load the cameras only, the icons now appear on the map.
So is there a memory limit on number of files or file size on the nuvi that is causing this issue, so maybe should I add all POI's to an SD card maybe?
Thanks |

IIRC there was a limit with the 310 units which was fixed by one of the latest firmwares. However it looks like there might still be a limit but the unit just doesn't lock up any more... |

The limit was 257 custom POI categories and it didn't matter where the POI files were stored, this used to lock up the devices - Mike |

That's it - was looking in the wrong place. Just remembered it's on the POI download page.
Quote: | Special Note to nuvi users: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL MORE THAN 257 POI CATEGORIES AS THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR UNIT TO FAIL TO BOOT! It is advisable to install the POIs onto a separate SD Card so if you do have problems then you can remove the poi.gpi file from the memory card from a separate card reader.

when they 'almost' admitted their error they claimed it was down to the number of bitmap files as opposed to csv files - you could always try removing some bitmaps from other poi sets and see if that affects the speed camera ones?
