Having just ordered this mount for my shiny new OneXL, I cannot understand why it is such a bargain compared to the "brodit" system, have I stuffed up.....done the usual thing, pulled the trigger before deeper thought Laughing anyway does anybody here have experience of this mount?
Is it as good as it looks?

Best regards David

Yes sorry it would have helped.....but forgot! Crying or Very sad

But the link posted is the correct item (albeit not from the same source) it comes with aux/cig socket power lead and permanent power lead (if required) along with the mount, looks good and if no one else has tried it I will post my opinions (FWTAW) when I install the mount.

Best regards David

It's not really comparable with a Brodit though? They're designed to be affixed using their ProClips.

Whilst I'll bet the cradle you have linked to is fine, I'd be a little cautious as the 12v-5v circuitry is part of the cradle, if that fails you'll fry your device. Carcomm have the same solution but I trust Carcomm and their brand.

I wasn't trying to compare it to Brodit, but it comes closest to my particular requirement.....didn't want the added complication and expense of the brodit "pro clip", I guess if your very unsure about the basic electrical design/engineering skills of a company you could always use the TT power lead in its place, I will get the lads in instrumentation to take a look at the power lead, see what they think of the design/implimentation. Probably no worse than all the rest! Laughing

Theres no getting away from the cost saving though.....hopefully it'll live up to expectations (the good ones anyway).

Had a scan for the Carcomm bits, they seems very hard to source after searching Expansys/GPS4less/TotalPDA and a few others....

Best regards David

hence my comment above.

I'm sure it'll be fine but was just suggesting that perhaps construction and quality may be why its' cheaper? Please do post back once you have it though and let us all know how it fares?

My only comparison was they both do basically the same thing....hold your precious GPS safely and securely (we will see).....as to the way they do it...thats up to the companies and thier design teams. I want something simple and effective (like me really!).

It will be interesting to find out though, ordered it yesterday got a message just now saying it has been dispatched.....

I've recently purchased a Brodit mount for my TomTom ONE v3. I fitted the Brodit to the existing bracket I had been using for my iPAQ. The Brodit is connected using it's supplied cig-lighter plug to an in-line cig-lighter socket I have hard wired in the glove box. Everything works OK apart from putting the TomTom into the Brodit. When I used a Brodit for my iPAQ it just dropped into place in the connection plug every time with not problem at all. With the one for the TomTom the plug on the mount sometimes aligns with the socket and goes in OK and sometimes does not. The mini type USB plug/socket does not leave anything for the slightest mis-alignment.

So I've decided to get a Brodit without a plug instead and manually plug in the mini USB. I will use a straight USB lead fitted into a cig-lighter plug with a standard USB socket which drops the voltage to the standard USB 5v connected to the in-line socket in the glove box.

I've had similar issues with other cradles for phones and GPS when using Mini-USB. They're not designed for docking and so tolerances are very small.

However I now use a Carcomm cradle with my 720 and it works perfectly and drops in and mates with power and TMC without any issues.

May be too late for you but they have a ONE v3 cradle.

I got one of these Dashboard Flex Mounts a couple of weeks ago for my 730 and I honestly cannot fault it. Everything seems to fit extremely well and the active connection is much more convenient than the supplied Tomtom mount. I don't know how else to recommend it other than to say it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Well it arrived yesterday, very prompt service......it actually is pretty well made, the cradle itself is perfect and holds the unit very securely, the USB connection slides in without problem and when the ball joint is tightened (which admitedely needs to be pretty tight) work fine and will not move easily, my only problem is there is not enough articulation on the ball joint (approx 40degs) to position the screen where I want it in my vehicle (Lexus RX300)......so looks like this mount will be relegated to the BMW and I will have to find a longer suction cup arm similar to the original TT300 system (which fits perfectly).

But as to the engineering of this mounting system....looks good.

Best regards David

Not 'active' like the one you had I know but I'm currently reviewing ARKON's range, anything here that suits your needs:
