|
|
Last night I downloaded the current speed camera download. I selected POI Garmin and zoned download. Cameras are showing up OK on my unit and alerts work OK but each camera (traffic light, gatso and mobile etc) is just shown as a small grey blob.
Last download I did (one before last) all worked alright with speed showing on gatso and mobile camera.
Any idea what is wrong? _________________ Nick Russell

Do you have all the icons present in your folder?
Try redownloading the database and reloading it to your Nuvi. |

Thanks for this.
Where should I look for the icons? Do you mean in the downloaded file or on my unit?
As far as I know I did the download the same as I did last time and this was OK.
I'll try a new download when I get home tonight. _________________ Nick Russell

Check the downloaded file and the folder you use to upload the files from. You should see a bmp file for each CSV file (with matching names). Common image programs such as Paint will open the BMP files and display them. |

I checked my download file - it had bmp files OK. I did a new download, same problem so I tried a consolidated download. Still the same - works OK but small grey dot instead of camera symbol.
I even tried a reboot of my Gamin but problem still there.
I could try turning on Garmin speed cameras that came with unit and turning off PocketGPSWorld alerts but I can't remember what the Garmin speed cameras show. Do they have an image on the screen?
Any other ideas? _________________ Nick Russell

Are you using the icons that came with the download?
Are you changing anything at all? Filenames etc? |

When you download the file and open it you see .bmp icons.
When you download the files and 'extract all' you see the icons in 'all their glory'
Have you extracted the files from the zip?
Today's download.

He says he's got the .bmps OK on the download, so it must be either not actually unzipping the files first as strumble says, or something going wrong in the upload with POILoader?
As you know, I'm CERTAINLY not a Garmin/POILoader expert, but I just tried it with the PGPSW database. All the .bmps were in the same folder as the .csvs and the icons "just worked".
Although there didn't seem to be any specific mentions of the bitmaps, there were a few tickboxes that I just left as the default. |

Thanks for the comments. I have downloaded the speed camera files many times without problems. I know all about unzipping and uploading using Garmon POI. I have not changed any icons or renamed them.
It has just occurred to me that the previous download I did was early April and this was OK. Then mid April I undated my Garmin software so this was the first new camera upload I tried after that.
Could the new unit SW be causing this? _________________ Nick Russell

On my journey home tonight I switched to the Garmin speed cameras - these worked OK. Alerts and symbols showing up.
I downloaded new POI loader. My old version was 2.3.2, new version was 2.5.2.
Unfortunately this did not solve the problem. When I switched back to PocketGPSWorld speed cameras POIs I only get grey blobs instead of speed cameras.
I am sure the problem is caused by a change in either POI loader or Garmin SW that effects BMPs showing up.
Does anyone else have a similar problem with the software I am using?
Tomorrow I will contact Garmin to see if they can help. _________________ Nick Russell

Update. I contacted Garmin. They were not aware of any problems but asked for a screen shot of the grey blobs. I will send them this and report back when I get a reply. _________________ Nick Russell

Well this is sorted I hope. I had great help from Clare and Rebecca at Garmin UK. My unit is on its way back to me but I am told it now works OK. It was suggested the problem was a 0k length poi.gpi file in the POI directory. _________________ Nick Russell

if it was 0kb then it would be empty and therefore not contain any coordinates... in which case, how would it know all the coordinates for 13,000 points without using any storage space?!!
seems odd to me...!

I had the the 0kb file as well as the camera poi file. I have no idea why this would cause the grey blob problem but it's the only explanation I have been told. _________________ Nick Russell
