Due for an upgrade to my work phone ( currently using a Nokia 6233 which is not shown on the Tomtom site but is good for all bar SMS ) I have been offered three. All are antiquated cheapskate typical work phones. Two I will not even bother mentioning but the other is the SE k530i - the original subject of this thread.
1.. I cannot understand why the k510i is fully compatible with SMS both send and receive and then this phone, as the upgrade, is APPARENTLY not. I say apparently as I have not tried it. I am loathe to upgrade to it as it may only do as much as the Nokia I have and considering battery power is less and the buttons are fiddly it would not be worth it.
2.. My main point is this - as some phones are clearly able to be fully compatible on the bluetooth but have not been 'tested' by Tomtom - what is it that you look for in the technical spec of the phone that would indicated SMS ( send and receive ) compatibility? Or is it as technical as - you just try it and see if it works? Can't be that surely. |

Can anyone confirm that the iPhone is or isn't compatible with TT Go 520? The lack of voice recognition on the iPhone would make this GPS double up in its usefulness.
Thanks |

The Iphone is not compatible with TomTom for GPRS Data services, so no traffic, Buddies, or other network services. It will not allow the TomTom to use the data connection,
It does work as a basic hands free, but nothing else. |

Thanks Vicky. I have just come back from Halfords where we attempted to pair the 520 and the iPhone but the pairing failed.
Any tips on why it failed and how to succesfully pair the two? |

I have paired mine with a 720, 920 and 930 without fuss
On the Iphone make sure Bluetooth is switched on in Settings menu
When in the bluetooth menu the searching for device circle will be going round
On the TomTom select search for new phone
The Iphone will find the TT and request a pin type 0000 the tomtom should then confirm pair and offer to download the phonebook
All done and dusted,.
EDIT - it is important you stay on the bluetooth settings page on the iphone whilst doing this it seems to be the only place where the iphone runs in discovery mode..
Should look like this
Edit : Image size reduced so I don't incur the wrath of Darren (Recite 100 times not everyone uses a 2100dpi screen!!) |

Thanks again.
Whilst at Halfords the 520 (in the cabinet) appeared on the list of devices on the iPhone and paired fine when I entered "0000".
However, then when I tried to connect to the iPhone from the 520 the process failed. There is a process bar that gets up to 40% then hangs on the TT. The iPhone then gives an error message something like "Unable to connect to TT Go 520"
I may go back tomorrow and try the 720, 920 or 930 and see if I get the success that you managed. |

Also bear in mind the demo units in store may not have the latest firmware and phone compatibility in them, My devices are all on the latest firmware, not sure when iphone was added to the phone compatibility list. |

Thanks. Went back to Halfords today and they kindly got a newly delivered 520 out of the store room.
We tried to pair it with my phone but it failed at the same point. The TT was running s/w version 7.221. Can you confirm which version you are running on your 720? and maybe iPhone version too?
Many thanks |

Hi
I have tried it on a 720 running V7.481 & V8.002 and it pairs with the IPhone on both of those perfectly.
I have not tried it on any of the earlier Firmwares, so that may be the problem, it may well need an updated phone connect pack download.
The Iphone is on software V1.1.4 on T-Mobile PAYG I have also checked it on Orange and O2 |

I friend came with me with his iPhone (1.14) today. Mine is running 1.13 and his phone and the 520 paired perfectly.
Can I ask, are you happy with the audio quality when using your TT for hands free calls?
Thanks for your help. |

Hi
Yes I use my TT as a hands free kit a lot. and find the quality better than somebuilt in units, it does not need an external mic, the only little let down is that you cannot route the sound from phone calls through the car speakers (or any external speakers). So volume can be a bit low in a noisy vehicle. I have always found it useable but would like more volume or the sound over my car speakers |
