I have a garmin 2610. I have just paid for the speed camera database, downloaded it and unzipped it. Downloaded the garmin poi loader but cannot get it to upload the speed ameras. When I use the loader I search for the unit and it says "some units were found" etc and "set the interface option to host or garmin"
I can't find any way to do that. All my software on the unit is up to date. Any advice much appreciated.

The 2610 doesn't work with the POILoader. You need to select 'Garmin other' from the download box and use the map overlay instead of POIs. If you click on 'Installation Instructions' on the download page, you will find a link to full instructions in the table under Garmin 26xx.

Thanks, I have tha data loaded now but noticed that the info is only from 2007. Any idea why I had to pay a years subscription to get out of date info?

What makes you think the data is 2007? It's updated approximately twice per month and the last release for the Garmin Overlay is May 3rd 2008?
I've just downloaded the Garmin GPSR Overlay file to check and it is the latest data, look at the version.txt file.
