Having had chance to test the lane assist functionallity and reading Vicky's comments I'm begining to think that TomTom will be in trouble when users discover that the lane assist functionallity is very limted.
I 've tried the following:
M1 northbound, Jct 19 M6 exit no lane assist.
M6 nothbound, Jct 4 M6 Toll, M42 exit no lane assist.
M4 west bound exit onto the M25 no lane assist.
A1 Northbound exit for Peterborogh lane assist available.
The more I see and hear of the new x30 range all I can say to any new user/customer do not both spending the extra money on these new units. Hardware wise they are identical to the x20 range and with a software upgrade will offer exactly the same functionallity. Save some money and buy a 720 at £130 while you can. |

I like the lane assist and it works on a large number of junctions including A roads in city centers, Lane Assist is the arrows at the bottom left corner of the screen
Reality View, where you get a static picture showing the crash barriers and overhead signs is not my cup of tea, to be honest this is not my cup of tea and thankfully there is an option to turn this part off. For me I see it as a distraction and of no real benefit - "Eye Candy" - Mike |

Mike,
Yes sorry I was referring to to "Reality View" and I have to say I have a similar view to yourself that it is a distraction. My concern is that Reality View is being used by TomTom as their main new feature along with IQ routing and many customers may purchase x30 units assuming that all junctions are covered by this feature, and they don't.
Its unlikely, but TomTom should indicate how much of the UK network includes Reality View functionallity so that customers understand what they are buying. |

If only the maps were updated!!! Still roads missing from over 5 years, despite telling TT and TeleAtlas. I like IQRoutes. When M61 closed the other week, it worked fine. Didn't see a queue of GPS users ahead or behind me and only late by 5 mins. _________________ TomTom Go720 v8.320

Totally agree with you on that. TeleAtlas don't seem to listen. I lost count of the times I used the website to tell them about a road that has never been a thru road for about 20 years and yet still the Oct 07 maps still show it as a accessible road.
Hence the reason my new GPS will hopefully have Navteq maps instead, at least there website allows you to check the progress of the change request... never found any such feature with TA.. In fact e-mails to TA go ignored (even when you get a read receipt) |

Totally agree
What is worse is that REALY REALLY Stupid Mistakes that have been on since 705 then 710 then 715 are still in 800 despite being reported to TomTom thru Mapshare and Tele Atlas Direct
Example
A6096 Shilo Way (60Mph Dual Carraigeway) main route from the M1 into Ilkeston Derbyshire has been marked on maps as ONE WAY ONLY (Away from the town) since at least V705
Hence all traffic using TT approaching Ilkeston is diverted off the main dual carraigeway and thru a small B road in a village
No wonder these people are up in arms against sstnav
Yes after at least 3 map updates this is still wrong. as I had to change the error on mapshare with V8 yet again |

Funny you should mention Ilkeston as that is near where I live and the roads in Derbyshire in general are so wrong. I do wonder when the major road changes in Derby will ever show on a map. i.e. a major island in town which now flows a different way round. |

Supposedly it routes you to avoid known (historical) delay areas at the time/day of your journey, NOT a traffic problem which arises during your journey. _________________ Dennis
