Sat Nav Theft Prevention

Hi guys,

Been reading most of the posts in this forum and having been the victim of car crime before i'd like to say just one thing

The easiest thing you can do to stop anything getting stolen from your car is to fit an alarm, unless its a smash & snatch (which you'd have to be stupid for leaving something valueble on display and you would deserve to get it stolen!) it wouldn't be worth it to them, also, get a proximatey sensor so you know (especially at night, which is thiefs heaven and is probably the best time to let you know) when someone goes near your car.

Simple really, just thought i'd add that, i'm not trying to call you all stupid or anything but in my experience its the best thing i've ever done, no-one has touched my cars in two years now and living where i live, thats quite an achivement!

luckerly where i live you can leave your car doors wide open all night and things are still there in the morning

Hello bigant1986.. I totally disagree about your comments on making your car safer by fitting an alarm and here is why? It wouldn't matter if a proximity sensor was fitted or not as people tend to ignore car alarms as they can be triggered by internal annoying flies trapped inside the car or outside frisky cats or squirrels or anything that decides to or purr up agains the car at night including the pesky night burgular so in essence the car alarm is useless.. If something is worth stealing then an alarm won't stop the determined car bugular..

What I do is simple take all inward visible means to hide the sucker cup that triggers a potential oppertunist car thief, that anything of that nature or anything of value is in the car, then the burgular would hopefully look into the car and decide that there isn't anything of value to bother smashing and grabbing and hopefully move on into the next car if it isn't visible then it isn't stealable.. So hide the valuables, even remove a rug if it is on the back seat seemingly car burgulars think that valuables will be hidden under car rugs so but it in the boot at night and leave the inside of the car empty of anything even the air freshener, so goes the story here in Belfast, yes you heard right kids here will smash the car window to steal a £1 air freshener.. I'm afraid bigant1986 your theory on needing to get a car alarm fitted is shot to pardon my language as I was going to get a clifford £500 motion all singing all talking system fitted but hey I thought that would make the kids where I live annoy the car and probabally the neighbours would do more complaining about the new car alarm going of all times of the day and night as to make it such that I would have to disarm it in the evenings or at night.. My car is a honda civic 1.4I and comes as standard with an immobiliser with electronic key chip so no key no car it simply wont turn on the fuel management system to the engine, so the need for an alarm is totally unfounded in my eyes and I decided after much deliberation not to spend the money on that one or even a £100 alarm as I do believe they are a waste of time & money..

Answer yourself this question, the last time you heard a car alarm go off when you have been out what was your initial thought? Oh there's another false car alarm!! Am I right! Deep down anyone reading this far will be or at least shoud be agreeing with me and if not I'm sorry for causing all you pro car alarm addicts any upset.. So at this juncture i'll say good night.. I'd have to agree, as an ex-Police Officer I know from experience that alarms are a complete waste of time.

Theft from vehicles takes seconds, the little devils will smash and grab if you give them any inkling that there is something worth taking. The only advice is to take everything out of the car and even to leave the glovebox open to show it is empty.

Alarms used to be worthwhile to prevent the theft OF your car but technology has improved so much now that most thieves will target your keys if they really want your car.

I carry mine in my pocket... never leave it in the car, and use a little plastic cupholder thing on the dash rather than risk marks on the window.

The little scrotes took it straight out of my coat pocket in a room full of people *whilst I was wearing it* and nobody noticed.

It's getting so you can't take anything out any more.
