|
|
I wonder if anyone can help me, when copying the OV2 (and bmp) speed camera database files from the unzipped folder to my TomTom One using Windows Explorer, I get the warning:
"The file 'pocketgps_uk_sc.ov2' has extra information attached to it that might be lost if you continue copying. The contents of the file will not be affected. Information that might be lost includes:
:Zone.Identifier:$DATA@
Do you want to proceed anyway?"
This occurs for all files copied. Am I losing vital information from the file?
If so, how can I copy the files without getting this warning?
Many thanks
Regards

Never seen that before....
What version of Windows is it? Vista seems to throw up all sorts of extra warnings and confusions, but I'm still on XP and don't see anything like that. |

Try another download from the site and see if that cures the problem, you might have a corrupt download? - Mike |

I'm using good old Windows XP Professional Ver. 2002 SP2. It certainly surprised me when it started happening only a couple of months ago. |

Short answer: You can safely ignore that warning!
Long answer:
The warning is just a result of Windows telling you that the file has an Alternate Data Stream (ADS) attached to it (only possible on NTFS filesystems) which will be removed when you copy it.
This particular ADS contains information about which "security zone" the file came from, which is usually the Internet.
You can test this by opening the Properties dialog on the file in Explorer. The properties dialog will say something like "Security: This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer."
By copying the file to a filesystem that doesn't support Alternate Data Streams (e.g. FAT or FAT32) you are not losing any content of the file - only the property information saying that the file originated elsewhere on the Internet.
EDIT:
My Windows XP doesn't usually give such a warning when using Explorer to copy a file with an ADS attached from an NTFS filesystem to a non-NTFS filesystem, but I have seen the warning on occasion (don't remember the specific circumstances). _________________ TomTom XXL IQ + TomTom GO 720

I've tried a number of downloads over the last few months and still get the same warning. The files seem to work, I was just wondering if there was something missing. |
