Hi all,

TomTom say that the removable device for the actual TomTom internal memory should be shown on My Computer as a pair of red hands. Typically, before I followed their formatting instructinos, it did. Afterwards however, it just showed up as the normal removable disc icon.

TomTom say that it looks as though I formatted the internal memory of the TomTom as opposed to what should have come up as the new SDHC card - although the TomTom is still working fine on its internal memory - as I put all what I had backed up back onto it!!!!

Normally, (for PC users anyway Wink ) the SD card slot will appear as the FIRST new drive and the internal memory as the SECOND.

I had a similar problem with other USB memory devices. It appears that sometimes, if you have a built-in card reader in your computer the USB powered memory cards do not seem to load properly. The solution I found was to use 'USB Drive Letter Manager' available at http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbdlm_e.html. Install this and send your USB drives (this includes your Tom Tom) up to start at say drive 'V'. My Tom Tom loads with the main device at V, the SD card at W.

Member "GerryC" who created the latest set of speed camera icons, has also made a couple of good DRIVE icons to go on the device, that show up in Windows.
I use them on my Go720, and find them very useful.
I can't see the topic about it here, but they are available on his website HERE

Hi all,

Well, having bought an SDHC compatible card reader, there is certainly nothing wrong with the SDHC card itself as it worked straight away on my computer. It doesn't however get recognised in the TomTom still. I have therefore sent off a complaint to TomTom for wrongly advising me that this particular card would be compatible. I doubt they will be willing to reimburse me for the cost of the SDHC card or send me a compatibale one for free, but I am at least keen to see what they have to say about the matter.

I think I am best at just getting a normal 2GB SD card for this particular TomTom - any further (and more exact) recommendations (ie; names and memory sizes etc) would be most appreciated from you all.

Many thanks for your time in trying to assist me with my problem.

Hi, just thought I'd update you for the final time.

Got a 2 GB SD card and it worked straight away in the TomTom!

As I suspected, TomTom didn't want to know about my complaint and their lack of help, but hey-ho, I expected that.

Haven't wasted my money on the SDHC card as I bought a digital photo frame and it works in that!!!!

With regard to sorting out the disappearing "red hands" icon I also sorted this out myself too (no thanks to TomTom). I had a backup of my TomTom from BEFORE I formatted it, so just restored it to this backup and, low and behold, the red hands icon returned. Now, whenever I connect it to my computer, the internal and card drive are shown as the last and second to last devices in "My Computer".
