I agree Tom. Are my eyes getting worse or are brake lights getting brighter ? I always apply the handbrake and at work encourage others to do likewise. My work car is automatic and that fact is often the excuse people give for not putting the handbrake on. If people don't have to, they don't bother. Perhaps once the foot brake is held on for more than five seconds continuously, there should be a warning buzzer, or a big bright red light on the dashboard or an electric shock through the pedal. We do get a BIG warning noise when the blue lights are on. Is that not enough for you Mike ?

I'm sure they are and also the indicators. When I stop at traffic lights or a junction etc, I not only put the handbrake on, I turn off the indicators until the lights change or until I'm first in the queue.

Some years ago, there was talk about having brake lights and indicators dimmed when the car lights are on but I never heard any more about that.
