My TTG520 died suddenly with some hardware internal memory issue.
TomTom duly had it returned and fixed it. OK
However Now the unit thinks that I'm on v705 map
TomTomHome [V2.2 & V2.3] Both thought i'm V715
I've got a 2nd line support call running with TomTom. But the question is this :-
Does anyone know of a road or feature or something that IS on v715 but WAS NOT on v705 ?
Cheers,

Lots more "3D" buildings in London on v715 than on v710 (covers Putney on v715). Can't remember if there were any at all on v705. |

Thanks Interesting....
Just done a quick route from putney to another random location in putney and there were some 3D Buildings!!!
Is there anyway to look in the file system to see what version one has?

Maybe Putney was a bad example as it's right on the edge, but on my map the 3D is a complete square covering Central London with very defined straight line edges to the zone, whereas I remember it being "patchy" before.
But maybe this isn't the best technique to use....
You could get someone to tell you what Windows reports the size of one of the main map files? (such as "cline.dat")
I never remember the differences, but get all four numbers when you right click and select properties - Size xxxMB (xxxxxxxxxx bytes), Size on disk xxMB (xxxxxxxxx bytes)
I can't tell you myself as I've only got W+C Europe.
So anyway, are you saying that if you tap the signal strength bars and then tap the software version box, the next page tells you one thing, but if you look at "Contents of my device" in Home it tells you another? |

That Sir is quite correct.
cline.dat = 70,189,226 bytes [70,193,152 bytes on disc]
Cheers Andy.

Thanks Oldboy.
.PNA shows 705.
Going to try and copy my old 715 maps over. The machine is [Technically] the same machine, with the same Serial and unit numbers. _________________ TTG 300 Died the death of a cracked screen

Oh armholes to it
I'll have to collar TomTom again tomorrow. The .PNA files says 705... The Unit says 705... TomTom Home has convinced it's self it's 715 and no new update is due.
And I've deleted the TomTom Drive and re-installed from 1st fresh backup. Deleted Tomtom home [Including all hidden install files from My Document and other areas]

Slightly confused....
When you bought the 520 it had the v705 map...
You either bought (or were assigned via the Latest map guarantee) the v715 map
Yes so far?
You then did a backup?
Now, after the repair, its reverted to v705 map?
But you can't restore the backup?
Or... do you only have a backup from BEFORE you got the v715 update?
Whatever has happened, if you downloaded the v715 map from the TomTom site, then it will be stored on your PC and re-installable with Home.
Or if you haven't still got it on your PC, then you should be able to download it again. You can, as many times as you like for a year. |

He's got a 520..... UK only!
We could still do with someone posting the size of the cline.dat file from a v715 UK only map.
It's always possible the .pna file has got separeated from the rest of the map. Who knows what TT have got up to.
Are they denying that they could have swapped maps? |

Sorry Andy for the confusion!
Yes, your right thus far!
March 08 - Purchased 520 Updated Map to 715
April - Went Faulty returned due to it unable to boot
Returned as same unit. Serial number/Unit number the same.
However with V705 map and old Operating Software.
Unable to restore v715 via map guarantee -OR- via backup from March.
.pna file reports v705. Unit reports v705. Home reports v715.
No room on SD Card for 2nd map either so it's no there
Very very odd. I'll collar TomTom today and see what 2nd line support can come up with.

It does seem like they've disconnected the .pna file and the other map files. Depends if you want to get them to sort it I suppose.
If you want to go ahead yourself, first make sure you have a backup of everything you've got now.
Then check to see you still have the map that you downloaded on the PC (it should be in C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads I think (I haven't got one in front of me))
If you have, open up Home and see if that can see it when you click on Update my device.
If so, I'd delete everything to do with the map off the Go (again using Home) and re-install it with "update". |
