The prestigious Canalys Navigation Forum will span the globe in 2008, with four events planned to run across Asia, the US and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). Over the last three years Canalys has become well known for their independent market analysis and events covering the SatNav sector. They specialise in delivering market data, analysis and advice to technology vendors.
Following the success of Geneva in 2006 and Barcelona in 2007, Canalys will be hosting four high-level navigation events in 2008. PocketGPSWorld.com, who are media partners with Canalys, attended both the Geneva and Barcelona forums and can highly recommend them to SatNav industry members.
Two regional navigation forums will take place. One during September in Budapest for the European, Middle Eastern and African market and one during October in San Francisco for the Americas. PocketGPSWorld.com will be attending San Fransisco.
There will be also be two national forums taking place during May in Bangalore, India and Taipei, Taiwan.
Covering three continents, the events will be a great opportunity for the industry to gather and benefit from research, analysis and debate on critical market trends and issues.
Confirmed attendees already include TomTom, NAVTEQ, Garmin, Samsung, Qualcomm, Tele Atlas, Mio, HP, Nokia, Wayfinder, Yahoo, General Motors and many more.
Chris Jones, Canalys vice president and principal analyst says "The navigation industry has grown rapidly from its humble beginnings a few years ago. It has helped make driving a better experience for many users of its products and brought its investors plenty of wealth. The rate of innovation is very impressive. This year will see big steps forward in pedestrian, as well as in-vehicle, navigation, and location-based services (LBS) for use on foot or in the car will also make significant progress in terms of usefulness and user acceptance."
He continues, "Most importantly, what was a Europe-centric industry has become global quite quickly. Navigation systems have now become one of the most important consumer electronics items in the US each fall, and the sector is springing to life in Asia. The global series of Canalys Navigation Forums will be pivotal in enabling industry participants to share experiences, gather knowledge and build important new relationships."
Have you attended a past Canalys Forum event? Will you be attending a future one? If you have any feedback or questions for or about Canalys here's the place to post. _________________ Robert Brady
