|
|
Hi All,
Could someone please explain to me how to input Lat. and Lon. data onto a spreadsheet. I use Microsoft Works which seems to be just like Excel. I only want to input one entry which is for Millau Bridge in France. The co ords. are Lon.3.03243 Lat.44.05841. I have never used spreadsheets before and believe that how you input the data is very important.
Many thanks.

A lot depends on what you are going to do with the spreadsheet afterwards.
If you only have 1 location that you need, it might be quicker to input it directly into your Device.
The first thing we need to know is which Device are you using?
Then we'll take it from there.
It's a long, long time, since I've used Works and I can't remember which Formats it can Save As. _________________ Richard

Hi,
I am using Navigator 7 on my laptop. I have already imported csv files into the application which I have downloaded from several sites.
It would be nice if I could import some of my own pois into it as well. The only reason that I mentioned a spreadsheet was that I thought that was how you professionals laid out the list of pois. If there is some other way of doing the import without using a spreadsheet so much the better.

CSV files are plain text files with the data separated by commas usually. You could try opening one of the ones that work in Notepad to see what the expected format is.
With that knowledge, put the data into Works in the same order (you may have to include quote marks etc) then try saving as CSV. If this is not available, add the commas to the original spreadsheet and try saving as a text file. (Don't have Works so have no idea what it can do).
Basically, it's a bit of trial and error to get a file in the same format as the ones you already have working.
If there's only a few locations, Notepad may be all that's needed. _________________ Gerry

Works can import and export .csv files, this is how i usually configure my poi lists, by using columns for lat.long, desc etc, these can be then saved as a csv file then converted to an .ov2 file using Poiedit. it works quite well ,forgive the pun, |

Forgive me for looking at this from another direction...
If there is only ONE thing to add, can't you just use "Add POI" in Navigator itself?
I'm guessing/assuming that Navigator has similar functionality to the Stand-alone TomTom's I'm familiar with?
That means you might not have direct Lat/Long co-ordinate entry (I can't remember if that came in in v6 or v7 software), but you could just browse the map, comparing it with the same location on Google Maps or similar. |

There is a review for the Pocket PC Version that suggests that it can use POI and Lat/Long, if it has similar functionality. _________________ Richard

Must admit seems illogical to use Works to only add one entry, its ok to for muliple entries, would have thought poiedit more suitable. it can ls be saved in varous formats. |

Sorry. Should have been more explicit. The programme is Navigator from Directions. Have been following your advice. Opened up previously downloaded POI file in Notepad and then entered my new details in a new Notepad window setting it out as the other was shown but the import is still
not being recognised.
I understand that this programme is probably not familiar to you all so I will keep trying to figure out where I am going wrong.
In the meantime thank you for your interest and help.

Ahh, two different "Navigators". Hadn't realised that...
I'll bow out quickly! |

I use Excel to modify or add POIs. It's quite capable of reading and exporting CSV files. |
