You've tried the first obvious thing to get it to switch on, yes, a pin in the reset switch on the bottom for over 20 seconds?
Always best doing this when you know you have a backup, but as you don't but say it won't switch on, you have little to lose.
If you do get it on, BACKUP first then though!
I assume you are saying it won't switch on yes?
Else if you are just saying you are having problems getting the Update to work only, that's a different kettle of fish entirely.
So let us know, and clever sorts on here will likely try and help. |

There is no such thing as a TTsystem folder, there should be a file called ttsystem in the root of the device though.
This screen shot shows the folder and file structure on a One Third Edition is the only file that is mising the ttsystem?

I take it you can connect the ONE to the PC if you have confirmed you are missing the ttsystem file.
Can you also get HOME to recognize it and it just won't update successfully, or will HOME not recognize it at all? |

sorry for the delay, bit of an update on the problem...you can turn it on the spash screen comes on then it just turn off.
You can connect it to the PC and TT home recognizes it then says "yoy need to restart your TT as it is waiting to update the software, please disconect and restart" you do this then home searches for updates. It finds unit software but when you try & install it, its says missing folder G:/ttsystem.
You can browse the files through my computer and they all seem to be there except the TTSYSTEM file is 0kb where mine is 5000kb on my TT1 v2 |

If you delete all the "loose" files (i.e. the ones NOT in any folders) then Home should automatically re-install the software.
Here are some instructions:
Quote: | Delete the files from the root directory of the TomTom. Follow the steps below to do this:
1. Reset your TomTom device: http://www.tomtom.com/6965 and connect it to your computer.
2. Open My Computer in Windows, or Finder in Macintosh from your desktop and turn on your TomTom device.
3. On your screen a new removable disk appears, this is your TomTom device, click on the disk to open it.
4. You will see a list of folders and a list of loose files
5. Delete all of the loose files. IMPORTANT: The folders with their content must NOT be deleted.
5. Close the window when all files are deleted by clicking on the 'x'.
Next we will reinstall the application via TomTom HOME.
First, go into TomTom Home and click on file / exit.
Now go into 'my documents' on your PC: TomTom Home / Downloads / Program. Delete everything that is in this folder.
Now start TomTom HOME on your computer again
TomTom Home should automatically check for updates and prompt you to install them, if not:-
2. Click Install to TomTom.
3. Select the Application update.
4. Click on 'Device - Disconnect Device', then turn off your device when it is done installing and disconnect it from your computer.
--------------------------------- |
NOTE: The above was written for Home v1. For Home v2, replace instruction 2 by "Click on 'Update my device'..."
However, as I don't trust "home" to do anything right you might prefer to manually install one of the archived software versions on OldBoy's site. |

The first one in the list, v7.162, is what you want.
I would suggest that the first thing you do is to make a copy of your map folder on your hard drive. Use Windows Explorer to copy it.
This is the only irreplaceable thing on the unit. The operating is software can be had for free, but not the map! |

Should actually be the 7.166 for the 3rd Edition but that's not on his site but 7.162 will work OK. |

If it's within 28 days of purchase take it back for a replacement. |

You should have stuck with us.... 99% of these issues are fixable without sending it back. Replacing the software would have replaced the "corrupted" files. |

I tried everything mate, I added the S/W and got it to start and show the map but it kept giving me an error saying cant write to map. If i browsed the TT through windows explorer the files would dissapear and it wouldnt let me copy off the TT. |
