|
|
hi all,
I don't seem able to access the RSS feeds via Firefox.
If I go to http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums and click on any of the little [RSS] icons, it takes me to e.g. http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/rss.php?fid=110&count=20
and Firefox shows a load of XML and says: "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below."
If I instead click on the feed icon in the Firefox URL bar - that's firefox's shortcut way to add a feed - it just sits there, "connecting to http..." (just that). This method works for all other feeds I've ever come across.
Am I doing something obviously stupid?
I've seen the other recent RSS/DTD thread, but this doesn't seem immediately related.
thanks much for any comments. |

I'm getting a similar response from Firefox so it not just you.
From the main forum list screen, I get the same message and raw xml if I tap on the RSS button below the forum name but if I go to the forum topic list itself and tap on the icon in the address bar, it works OK.
I don't really know that much about RSS so can't explain what is missing etc. _________________ Gerry

sigh; I don't even get that. If I go to a forum, and click on the icon in the address bar, it just sits there saying "connecting to http..." indefinitely
Is there a list of the real feed URLs, that I can add manually, perhaps? |

I've just tried in Firefox and the Forum Index RSS links don't work but the link in the address bar of the individual forums does (in Firefox).
However the Index page links do work in IE7 and IE8 (on a PC) as well as Safari on my Mac's.
What OS are you using and what version of Firefox? _________________ Darren Griffin |

thanks Darren, it's my CVS build of Firefox 3.0, running on Linux. That's obviously a little unusual, but this is the first problem it's had in adding hundreds of other feeds (to Google Reader). |

sigh, it's my own stupid fault.
for some reason the feeds from pocketgpdworld *only* are tickling something in my proxy settings, that doesn't affect other feeds.
disabling my proxy has cured it.
apols for wasting everyone's time, and thanks for the help. |

sigh again. looks like I spoke too soon.
now I can click on the RSS icon in the address bar, and it takes me to Google's add page, but the page it's trying to add is the backend.php page, as mentioned in the DTD thread, and it doesn't actually add anything.
doesn't look like I'm going to be able to follow the forums after all
is there no hope that the site admins might post a simple list of the feed URLs so they can be added manually? |

I'll get this looked into but our web admin is in the Far east this week so it won't be until he returns.
You don't need RSS to follow the forums though, just bookmark the 'View posts since last visit' link? _________________ Darren Griffin |

yup, I know, but I read all my other feeds via Google Reader, so doing something different for pgps will just confuse me
thanks again. |

If whoever wrote the RSS feed for the safety cameras is watching this then there is a stray "b" tag in line 17 stopping it from loading |

Care to expand on that? I presume you mean http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/speed-camera-rss.php ?
It's working for me but then I'm not on Windows. Line 17 in my editor is just excluded code, had a look but don't see anything obvious elsewhere? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Can you retest and let me know if I've caught all the issues preventing the feed from working for you? _________________ Darren Griffin |
