Unzip the archive (in Windows XP right click and "extract all")
Should produce two files - "pub.bmp" and "pub.ov2"
Copy both of those into your map folder
In Change Preferences, go to "show POI on map" and tick the Pub box |

Ok i have done that as per your instructions and seems to be fine.
When i dissconnected from the pc them tomtom rebooted and a message popped up trip logging dissabled ????? not sure what that is but i went into the preferences and clicked on show poi on map and it was allready ticked.
Any suggestions why it shows trip logging dissabled.
I thought i would have a quick look to see if there are any more POI of use on my trip but stil the list will not load.
I am using XP & IE7,i did manage to download 1 POI but since then the list will not load and i have not done anything different.
Below is the text that stays on the screen even after clicking on the refresh button.

I also get this text if I ever try to download POI files for my TomTom....
It is somewhat annoying and needs patience
One thing I did find that worked was to untick United Kingdom then click the refresh button....try this once or twice
For some reason it brings up the full list of POI's to chose from |

Only thing I can think of that might be "trip logging" is TomTom's "Enable collection of anonymous usage statistics" which is switched on and off in Home Preferences, unles you've got any third party add-on programs like "TripMaster" installed.
Quite a few people seem to have problems with the POI list, but I never have. I use Firefox, but I don't think it is always down to the browser itself. |

Thanks that did the trick.
I have put the 2 poi files into the map folder and carried out a demo drive on the unit past 3 pubs but nothing showed up in the way of any icon on the screen or a alert to say i was by a pub / carvery.
I moved them from the map folder to the poi folder but stil the same.
The files i have downloaded contain ov2 file & a bmp file.
I have done the following,
preferences, show poi on map, then scroll down and the 2 poi that i downloaded are there and have a tick next to them.
Also the following.
preferences, manage poi, warn when near poi, scrool down and select the 2 poi and select distance and alert.
Am i doing something wrong or can anyone advise why i get no icon on the screen and no alert at all.
Thanks and sorry to be a pain. |

I take it these pub / carvery you make a demo drive past are actually in the database |

One way to check would be to plan a route........
Navigate to... Point of Interest... POI in city... enter city
then pick pub / carvery and see if they are listed??? |

You learn something every day,did not know you could do that.
Ok i done what you have said and when i select pub and scrool through the list the 3 pubs i went past are not in the list.
Also when i select pub/carvery it shows no poi found.
This would explain why i get no icon or alert.
Now is this something i have to put up with and the pubs in the list on the tomtom have been put there due to some kind of award being given etc or is it something i need to do.
Suprised there are no pub/carvery in the list as i know about 5 in my city .
Please advise and thanks very much for your help. |

They are not there through awards or anything.....
I would assume no-one has submitted these locations to the POI database
On the POI page there is a section for submitting POI's that are not in the list and these will then be added.
As far as I know this is how the database was put together, and a lot of hard work by the staff.. I may be corrected |

Quote: | The usual suggestions are:
1. Try again
2. Try the "show link" option
3. Try a different browser |
Add No4 limit downloads to 22 subcategories in any main category and append in POIedit. |

The first problem is getting the list to appear in the first place |

It is just possible they are listed under a different category. _________________ Richard

From a personal point of view, the problem (if it is a problem) may be the fact that it is a public orientated database, I have submitted a few pubs that to me were dining pubs althought they are active pubs in the normal sense, because they suit my requirements are categorised as such and not as pubs, The only answer is to submit any not in the database. the more submitted the better the database improves. |
