I have a TomTom One V1. My son would now like to buy a TomTom unit but I have heard the V3 One is not as good.
Would he be better with another model? |

Its difficult to argue against a Tomtom ONE, which ever version you go for, the main complaint against the V3 is the fact that there is no SD card slot, not really an issue if you have no need to add more maps. I'd go for the Europe map version, it has more internal memory for very little price difference, £114 at Amazon at the moment.

Have you read through This Thread which details the One Third Edition, it includes some work arounds for what is missing from the device as supplied - Mike |

I have just, over a week ago got a TomTom ONE V3.
It's a good unit and with the menu stuff off this area it's even better, (see below).
The menu they setup lets you do all the little bits that tomtom took off, and it's really easy to do.
I am a bit long in the tooth but the messages talk you through it.
But even without these new menu items it's still a very good unit simple and easy to use but also does a very good job. |

Thanks for that.
I know he plans to add the US map so that's where the limitation of no SD slot might be a problem. |

I wouldn't go for the One Third Edition if planning to add the US map. Consider the One XL with a memory card as a better option. |

I agree with pcaouolte, go for the One XL or even the 720.
If you want to add extra maps, avoid the ONE 3rd Edition like the plague. |

Thanks.
I thought all the new versions of TomTom One were without the SD slot but I realise now that it's only the v3 One. TomTom's official site is not very clear on what each version has. |

Also quite possible the one 3rd (as well as the xl-s) are being discontinued. Apparently no longer available at TomTom.com |

It's a case of where you are in the world, UK can only buy from outside of the TomTom site like ( online shops ) not direct from the site that has always been the way as far as I know.
USA can buy from the site directly, but not the ONE V3 or the XL they can only be bought from other suppliers.
Looks to me as we are all getting our wires ( countries crossed ) the TomTom ONE V3 is still very alive and healthy in our part of the world.
At the moment it looks to be a good deal if you look around aswell. _________________ davawt.

This is quite possible, while on the TomTom web site try changing your country of origin, you will notice certain models, accessories and such like will appear/ disappear depending upon location. HD Traffic receivers are a good example.
This is a good thing though where certain services are only available in specific countries, it stops people from purchasing items not intended for their geographic location. It also allows a user to see what is available to other countries such as the US spec One XL-S which is USA only AFAIK - Mike |
