i have a tomtom go classic and am looking after a tomtom go 710 for a friend and am meant to be lending it to someone else as hes gone away.
i decided to try and update his software for him on it but they dont connect the same way as the go classic, so i removed his standard SD Card and put it in my go and fired up tomtom home.
updated to the new tomtom 9mb software, however it now wont fire up and just locks his tomtom up, it does still work in my go but im guessing i need to remove the new software application i put on it as it was for the go classic not the go 710.
if anyone could help it would be great
thanks |

Did you take a backup of the 710 card before you messed around with it? - Mike |

Copy the contents of the 710's card to the PC as a first step. Next delete all the files in the root of the memory card, DO NOT delete any folders, just the files.
Connect the device to the PC with the card inserted and let it connect to the PC, Start TomTom Home and use the check for updates, this should download and install the necessary files required for the 710. - Mike |

Just a thought: Won't he have to set up new account within Home for the 710 (ie. with a new email address). 'Home' thinks that his unit is still a Classic. |

As far as I know, you only need the email account for "paid-for" updates (maps, camera database etc.)
You should be able to update software on any device on your copy of Home (I know I have!). |

If the server is working, I tried an update to the 720 via Home yesterday and it failed. this combined with the mapshare problems might point to a server problem at the TT end of the fibre's - Mike |
