The PGPSW clock may be wrong, but poor Terry Wogan this morning has two clocks showing two different times
Oh, the poor Togmeister.

Shame I never searched for "site AND clock" then, isn't it.
Just like I said to the other poster, and thus already discussed my inadequacies in my search algorithm.

I used "cool" instead of "grin" but I think you get the inference and intonation to the post anyway. |

Oh dear - as my post immediately followed Darren's I didn't think it needed clarification, but to make it clear, it should now be edited to read
Dear Darren - A Search for "site AND clock" will reveal blah, blah, blah. _________________ Dennis

Sorry Dennis,
No it wasn't obvious to me, what it was meant in relation to.
That said, Darren might have realised it was for him though no problem.
Thanks for clarifying though, it's helpful and saves any issues.
Cheers again. |

Not sure where it went but anyway we use US hosted servers so Rugby or RugbyMkII would be a little too far although it could explain the 17min delay!! |

Anthorn, in Cumbria on the Solway Firth.
And it goes without saying your post was light-hearted, but my wave-ceptor watch and radio singal based living room clock are both spot on ** Wonder where the site server DOES actually take it's time from though ** |

The server clock won't be getting a time sync from Anthorn though as its only 15KW, it covers most of Europe but certainly won't get across the pond - Mike |

No Dennis, a bigger pond than Morecambe Bay!
Mike is saying that we're sat sitting here in the UK, but the server is way, way, way over the sea in a land far, far away separated by a common language and out of the reach of even Radio 5 Live on AM (they also broadcast PM in the afternoons, don't they? ).
No, not Yorkshire either
As I understand it, the servers are 'stateside'
...in a land where there's California and 'rest of world'
...a land where film stars are running the joint - and doing a pretty good job, by all accounts
PS if the server clock is 17 minutes(ish) slow, how come you had the 7 o'clock beeps at 6.52 server time? Is K-E-Y-N-S-H-S-A-M not working to GMT?
Two beeps, or not two beeps, that is the question _________________ Andy

It's pre-recorded, innit! Some exiled northerners seem to lose "it" when they move "it". _________________ Dennis

Well, typically the US leave it to the military to keep track of the time.
http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/
As it also is the master clock for GPS (sorry for bringing this back both on topic and subject area), the servers could get the time from the GPS satellites though should get it from one of the NTP servers across the country (which includes the "SECRET INTERNET PROTOCOL ROUTING NETWORK" ).
Now back to some discussion of which I have no idea what the background is. _________________ Gerry

Sadly, this isn't strictly true.
Gary, you forgot NIST - which is civilian (here) and apparently governs US time.
Then, there are the atomic clocks, which only tell the time retrospectively after the average of all the atomic clocks around the world has been calculated and then the relevant parties are advised whether their clock is 'fast' or 'slow' since all atoms oscillate at slightly different speeds. _________________ Andy

When I were a lad, the village used ter send a bloke to London, with a piece of paper and a pencil and he'd look at Big Ben, write down the time, then come back and tell us all (we used ter send a bloke wot could read and write). _________________ Dennis

Ah yes, Dennis, but when you were a lad:
trains were hauled by steam locomotives AND they ran on time
Britain WAS great and we didn't have such farces as Heathrow's Terminal 5 or Wembley Stadium
there were so few cars on the roads nobody needed the wonders of TMC
kids walked to school and there wasn't the Chelsea Tractor school run
God was a boy
EDIT - this is what they call progress _________________ Andy

GPS_fan, you've just brought a tear of nostalgia to an old lady's eye.
