Just purchased a tomtom520, but can't get it to link up with my laptop running xp. Just keeps saying unknown device, and I can't find the unit through tomtom home. Any suggestions? |

A few questions come to mind:
1. Does the laptop have xp service pack 2? The reason I ask is that until that service pack, xp did not handle usb 2.0 ports properly.
2. Do you have more than 1 usb port on the computer; if so, can you try to connect via a different port?
3. When your unit is connected to the computer, can you see its existence using Explorer (or some other file manager) and can you see the contents of the unit using Explorer?
4. Have you tried a pin reset? |

1. My mistake, running vista!
2. Same problem regardless of the usb port used
3. Can't detect the tomtom in my computer
4. I assume a pin reset is done by pressing the reset button? If so, have done that, no help? |

I have seen other posters having problems with Vista and TTHome. I guess you'll have to call TomTom support. |

With the TomTom plugged in to the PC and you have pressed the button on the TomTom to connect to the PC does the TomTom appear in the drives listed when you select Start/ Computer - Mike |

No. Plug it all together, green light on tomtom, but can't find it in devices. Error message on desktop says unknown device. |

Have you ever connected a memory card reader or USB memory stick to the PC running Vista and do these work? - I have had "fun" since moving to Vista but the TomTom's will connect and work (although I try not to use Home as I don't trust it, neither do I need it TBH) - the important part is does the TomTom once connected actually ask on its screen whether you want to connect to the computer?
(One late addition to this - and I hate having to ask it, but, is the TomTom device actually switched on when you plug it in? - Mike |

Tomtom is switched on. Doesn't ask if I want to connect though? Rang tech support, they suspect faulty unit so just had it changed and will give it a go later on. |
