I have a Compaq H3970 128mh ram, with Navman 3450. This WAS working perfectly with my TomTom 2. Have just upgraded to TomTom 3 and the mapping screen "freezes" I get a good "lock" hit navigate, and it will either show the gps screen with the bottom of the navigator screen, or it will start to navigate correctly then freeze up. I can only get out by resetting!! This is getting frustrating!!! I have put TT2 back in, and all is working perfectly! HELP!!! What have I done wrong? Dave.

Hi Dave,
I’m afraid I’m pretty much stuck. I remember a while ago there was a discussion on this forum about interference between Navman jackets and iPAQs. I think the solution is to insert some bubble wrap between the iPAQ and the Navman jacket.
You may wish to search the forum for further information.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Bo Peep. _________________ TomTom 730

The interference issue is helped by putting a piece of an anti-static bag between the iPAQ and the Navman - Laura was nearly right in what she remembered (well done that woman - you're amazingly knowledgeable considering you only have the experience of sitting alongside your boyfriend as he operates his system - your significant contribution to the POI files we have available has also not been missed by me). Being conductive, the anti-static bag material acts as screening.
This sounds like a software problem. GPS 3.00 and 3.01 have various bugs between them - though the main bugs are with Bluetooth operation, particularly on the iPAQ 2210.
I think Laura was on to something when she suggested reinstalling Navigator 3, uninstalling GPS 3.00 which it will install, and installing GPS 2.07. The alternative is to uninstall GPS 3.00 and install GPS 3.02, the latest GPS version, which you can get from the TomTom Support site.
You will still need the Navman drivers - without them your GPS will not work.
Further, I suggest that you at least temporarily do not use any add-on programs with Navigator - such as GPSAssist or CheckPOInt. It's possible that might be causing trouble. Get Navigator 3 working reliably by itself first - then try it with add-on software.
A further possibility is that when you upgraded the map files on your memory card, they finished up very fragmented. This is quite likely, especially if your card is quite full of other things. One way around this is to defragment the card, another is to copy everything off the card, install the map first, then copy everything else back (ideally in the reverse order of how often it gets changed to help prevent future fragmentation - the files you change the most go back last).
If you're using an SD card and you post any markings from the back of your card, I can often recognise potentially troublesome cards from them.
A final possibility concerns your iPAQ's ROM. As you said you had a 3970, if you're running Pocket PC 2002 on it, it's quite possible you're running the 2.10 ROM. That ROM version has duff SD card drivers - for which a fix is available from the HP web site here. This driver upgrade is highly recommended by me - though do make sure you follow the instructions carefully, as it permanently modifies the iPAQ's ROM. If you don't see any on-screen instructions after you soft reset to complete the upgrade, leave the iPAQ alone for at least 20 minutes to ensure it has installed fully.
Do not attempt to install this upgrade if you're still on ROM 2.00 - you could upgrade to ROM 2.10, then install these drivers, but if you do so you'll have to hard reset the iPAQ and install everything again. If you want to stick with Pocket PC 2002, I'd recommend you consider this, but the SD drivers in ROM 2.00 are OK (they don't support SDIO, though, so if you want to use any SD cards other than memory cards, you will have to upgrade).
The 4.00.08 Pocket PC 2003 ROM has fixed SD drivers in it and doesn't need an upgrade.

Hi David! Upgraded everything you suggested, and it all now runs PERFECTLY!!!! It seemed either checkPOInt, or UKPostcodes was the problem! :| Do I wait for an upgrade for these programes, or is my experience a "one off" ??!!! any further suggestions as I found BOTH these progs' very useful Thanks to you (and Laura) for ALL the help Dave.

I'm glad you've got things working again.
If your system is stable, add in CheckPOInt. I've used 2.0.2 quite happily with Navigator 3 without any crashes, though if it does upset things, just uninstall it again.
If that works, add UK Postcode (which I haven't tried, simply because I don't have enough storage card space left). If you install CheckPOInt first, you won't have to mess around trying to install the TomTom SDK support files. I sense from the forums that there's no problems using UK Postcode with Navigator 3 either.
