I have checked the TomTom FAQ 'Can my TomTom device show me the speed limit for the road I am on?' and 'Show max speed next to speed.' My 720 shows the speed limit against current speed on major roads but not minor roads. I thought it was because the minor road speed limits are not in the TomTom but when I try to correct the road speed limits they are already there and the TomTom says that no changes are necessary.
How do I get the speed limits to show for minor roads and so get over limit warnings when speeding on minor roads? Current speed warnings were the main reason that I bought the 720 and not a cheaper model.
Thanks

Until the map data contains the speed limit for the roads you want then there is very little you can do, you could try using MapShare to inform TomTom of the speed limits on the roads you want but the data will not be available to you straight away - Mike |

Hi Mike
The TomTom does include the limits - I know that because I've tried to change them on 4 minor roads but the TomTom already has it recorded.
For example for Darley Avenue M21 type in:
-Map corrections/Correct a map error/Report other error/Existing street/Darley Avenue M21 - tick 'Wrong Speed Limit'/Done/Enter Correct Speed 30mph/Done (TomTom prompted the 30mph speed)
The TomTom displays 'No changes to report' as the speed entered equals the speed stored in the TomTom. I've tried this on local roads which were not showing my speed/speed limit on the display and keep getting the same result. One road was incorrectly showing as 30 in the corrections (not showing on the my speed/speed limit display). I changed that one from 30 to 40 and it accepted the change. |

It could be that the TomTom defaults to 30 on minor roads and possibly other defaults on higher speed roads. Even using MapShare, it won't change on your device in any case - it's just to report to TomTom.
We will have to wait until the next map version at least to see if user reported changes have been actioned.
Note that, at present, only some roads have a speed limit indicated and in many cases this is wrong. Personally, I do not use this function as it's often misleading. _________________ Gerry
