I received my free update disc with the 2008 maps this morning. My Nuvi 250 is currently updating, I thought they were joking when it said it may take up to 2 hours though! |

Yup, received mine yesterday (after requesting it from my.garmin.com on 8th Feb).
It installed perfectly, no drama at all - which was nice!
BTW: Mine is the Nuvi 300 which was purchased in Dec07 and came with NT8 maps (Comet selling ye olde stock). I don't know whether the update would have been free automatically, or because I emailed them.
All credit to Garmin though. They've updated me to the latest FOC.

Not sure what Garmin's policy seems to be with new maps-
I bought a Nuvi 370 a few weeks back, and the maps were the old ones for europe and the US, So ordered the US free update no problem, but the europe one just takes me to the buy page... Garmin sent an email reply yesterday sayng you can have US or europe updates but not both. I am going to argue the issue as the unit comes with both pre-loaded, and europe ones are more useful for me. I feel it's not unreasonable to have the map updates for all the maps loaded with the unit. Let's see what their next response will be. |

If you have done the update to 2008 can you confirm the update gives you all of Europe? _________________ Samsung Mega

No. I had UK only beforehand, and that's what I've got now.
The DVD was for the whole of Europe, and I was prompted for what I would like to install. However, it would only allow me to select ONE country/region, and NOT the whole of Europe. |

It'll depend on how much space you have to store maps. I suspect if you only had UK before you have a small SD Card and can probably only store one country again. If you have enough space there is no reason why you can't have the whole of Europe.
That's how the v9 maps worked, many people here bought a 1 or 2 Gb card and installed all of Europe to that card and swapped it in. You just keep clicking areas and building up the map keeping an eye on the amount of space needed at the bottom left.
MaFt made a 720 kb PDF file of v9 installation instructions which is here . Is the 2008 similar?
edit: spelling.....again! |

The 2008 update process is very different and if you are doing a straightforward map update much simpler. I had hoped to be able to use it to go from UK and Ireland mapping to the whole of Europe but I haven't managed to work out how. It may be possible but I wouldn't rely on the assurances that are being given from people who have only done the V9 update. |

Really? I'd read it was the same, but i'm still waiting for the DVD to work out the process or any changes....
Any chance you can talk us through the process.... A rough guide as to what's involved? |

From my not very reliable memory, put in the DVD, select which region you want to update from a pulldown list, enter the 8 digit code from the back of the DVD case and wait while the maps are uploaded. MapSource is not involved. Interested to know whether you can figure out how to extend the mapping when you get your DVD. |

This is a bit worrying as people have been given assurances from Garmin that ALL of Europe would be available even if you only had UK/Ireland to start with. _________________ Samsung Mega

Could you specify ALL regions at this stage?
With my European nuvi 660 then its very similar - but you don't get the region selection stage. It would appear that the unlock code is obtained over the network automatically (I have a permanent network connection - if you aren't connected then maybe you have to get an unlock code?). Mapsource, if you have it on your PC, gets updated with the new maps - so you can plan routes on your PC - then do nothing with them as the nuvi doesn't understand - unfortunately Whole of Europe took 2hrs+ including taking a backup of the original unit. _________________ Phil |

I couldn't see anyway to do this. Of course I could be missing the blidingly obvious. |

Yes I bought the update partly because posting here suggested that all Europe would be available. Perhaps you should ask Garmin directly and if they say yes ask for the procedure. I would do it but am very busy at the moment. |
