Suggestion! If you were to create a new forum catagory under the "PocketGPSWorld Speed Camera Database" titled "Camera submission Q&A".
Under this heading you can put a a few sticky threads including DennisN's "How to be a Verifyer" and a "Please read this before asking WHERE IS MY FREE..." or more politly "Pease read this before posting here"
With this you might put off a few repeated posts and be just left with the real problems and leave the Database queries to the other catagory. _________________ Dom

Maybe PGPSW could create revenue by taking bets on whether 'claimants' meet qualification criteria _________________ Andy

I got a "free lifetime subscription" this week. Totally unexpected (never expected to finally be a "first") but entirely appeciated.
What's worrying me is that it expires on October 14th 2028.
I'm starting to plan a party for October 13th and my funeral for October 15th...
What do you guys at PGW know that I don't? ;-) |

I was thinking of something a little more directed at the "WHERE MY FREE..." epedemic that appears to be present.
I Like blunt... "IF YOU HAVEN'T RECEIVED YOUR FREE MEMBERSHIP BY NOW THEN YOU WON'T!" _________________ Dom

I think Darren said that subscription software has a maximum of 20 years, at which point your 'lifetime' will be extended by a further 20 years _________________ Andy

Don't worry too much - last time that date came up, it was some bloke called William sticking arrows into people's eyes at Hastings.
I believe that actuarially speaking, my time is up when I'm 86 in 2025 and my membership doesn't expire until 26th February 2026. Does the membership by any chance fall outside the remit of "You can't take it with you"? Can I bequeath it? Alternatively, if PGPSW have the power to extend my membership, I wonder if they could do the same with my life? And whilst they're at it, a nice set of six numbers for next Saturday night wouldn't be sniffed at.
As for dignifying these posts with replies, there's not much dignity in any of them. Some are innocent guile-less enquiries, some become very aerated. My replies start off being dignified, but I haven't got the patience of Darren, I'm afraid. That's why I've now got a nice little list of links, to save my blood pressure. But I suspect I shall be adding the next thread on the bottom of that list! (Ooops, just let out my little secret that I didn't actually sit here and type up that list in 8 minutes flat this morning. Dang! I thought I'd impress mostdom, now I've gone and spoiled it!). _________________ Dennis

As a member of several forums not all Satnav and running a forum myself I can feel sympathetic but in my opinion the written word can be interpreted by different people in different ways.
The member asked a question and I know some may have read it as him being aggressive. The point is that immediately going on the defencive and attacking is not the way to go.
I do appreciate that mods get a bit fed up I know I do but I do think a polite reply is a far better way of dealing with these things. I would hate to see this forum sink to the level of other forums. |

That's a fair and valid point, I'm as guilty as anyone of firing from the hip. Often its a direct result of being 'wound up' by another poster or the 'tone' of the enquiry but that is no excuse.
We all work hard in the forums, the Mods in particular are unpaid volunteers without whom we'd be sunk but none of us are perfect and we all occasionally respond without having given due consideration and pause for thought.
Our offer is just that, an 'offer' and the demands that some posters make are galling but we ought to try harder on occasion to rise above and not take the bait so readily! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hmm. I'm firmly committed to "obnoxious" myself.
