|
|
I'm on a bit of a learning curve converting from a TomTom GO 300 (which died) to a Garmin nuvi 200W. On the TT if I wanted to head for a town without putting a full address in then you simply move forward through street name and house number screens leaving them blank and it would default to the town centre. I've tried doing the same with the Garmin but it takes me to a list of road numbers for the town so there doesn't appear to be a default town centre setting, unless soemone can tell me otherwise.
Also I find the map redraw on the Garmin noticably slower than the old TT is that normal? I thought I'd done well getting the Garmin at a good price but begining to wish I'd stuck with TT. |

You have not mentioned the mapping software?
CityNavigator NT or Non-NT or MetroGuide or TOPO.
My 60CSX with CityNavigator v9 Non-NT does what you are trying to do[but you have to select search by City
My iQue with MetroGuide also does the search by City as you would wish.
There have been many posts on other forums that the NT version is slow!
People have changed to Non NT. |

yep - looks like one of the things they removed on the entry-level end of the nuvi range. I would see if there is a POI list of town centres somehere on the web. _________________ Phil |

Oh bother.....
Just been looking at this again, playing with the garmin at my desk. Time to come clean and admit a rather basic mistake ... From the 'where to' command a menu page appears with six icons, I've just realised there are nine icons on the page, I hadn't noticed that page had the scroll key to show the other three icons. Low and behold one of those three icons is 'cities' just what I was looking for .
Would I be right in thinking the softwara and maps are upto date (from the numbers I posted above)
Thanks |

Thanks for posting this; as I was having the same problem
My technique was to go to MAPs and set the location on the map.
It worked but better the way U have described. |
