No sadly they do not work on the Nokia Route 66 application, only the PNA/ PDA version of software is supported - Mike

shakatar

One option is to buy the Route 66 cameras via the 6110 - not as comprehensive as the PGPSW ones, but cheap - about £7:00.

I understand that there's a new version of the 6110 due out soon - the 6210 - and I think that model abandons Route 66 for another application - can't remember which.

Personally I'd go for the N95 Black 8Gb (but I'm biased Laughing Laughing ) because it gives you a lot more than the 6110. Just be aware that if you install Tom Tom on the N95, you'll need an external satellite receiver because TT doesn't (yet??) support the internal one on the N95. Co-Pilot 7 Mobile I think does, and may support the cam database from this site (Mike - confirm or otherwise please?)

Depending on what you need satnav for, you might also want to consider Nokia Maps and Google Maps. Neither support the PGPSW cam database but are not bad applications in their own right.

Hope this helps

Phew....you're lucky. Just checked it out today, and the voice guided navigation for UK & N Ireland is £44:00 - ish for a year's subscription. But you can buy for a week or less if that's what you want, and depending on where you want it for. There's a free 3 day trial. I'm aiming at taking a week or two sub for a trip to Sweden in June. From memory, CoPilot pans out at about twice that, free voice instructions but maps that may well be more out of date. And loading it is a pain...

IMHO £44:00 is a bit toppy, but it's a trade-off. Depends what you want to use your satnav for. You're always going to get the most recent Nokia maps for free via Map Loader, which some might see as a bonus. So updates are free. Can't add the PGPSW cam database, tho'.

And then there's the bigger picture of what you want to use the phone for. The N95 8Gb handles Google Maps brilliantly, which I find useful, plus does a load of other stuff the 6110 doesn't - email downloads, loads of memory for music & videos etc. Plus it's a brilliant phone. And the screen is first class.

This has probably confused you even more, but for what it's worth, I use the 2210 + TomTom 5 + PGPSW cam database for serious long distance UK motoring, the 6110 + Route 66 for local stuff (less clutter in the car) and haven't had the N95 long enough to work out its role yet... Embarassed Embarassed

Sure, you can use TT mobile. I assume that you could then use the cam database from here, but haven't checked it out myself.

You'll need an external BT Satellite Receiver, which sorta makes a nonsense of the 8Gb's built in unit, but there seems to be very few viable alternatives for satnav on Symbian S60R3 at the moment. Copilot apparently doesn't offer maps of Europe, Garmin isn't cheap and is slow in offering voice instructions and only 4 digit postcode search, Sygic has routing problems worse than most others, if what I read in other forums is true.

One day maybe the manufacturers will wake up to the reality of GPS on a phone and offer suitable software Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Route 66 isn't bad if you can live without the PGPSW cam database.

I assume you mean other forums on this site such as This Review - I wasn't joking when I got pulled up by the Police, its just a shame they refused to let me take a picture of their squad car blocking my exit route - Mike

Not only here, Mike, it seems to have had mixed reviews elsewhere re: the routing - some are happy, others less so. But TT5.2 and R66 both provide odd routings from time to time as well. Might just have to give Sygic a whirl myself Rolling Eyes Does it take the PGPSW cam database?

Shakatar - you'll still need an external GPS Receiver with the 6110 - it's Tom Tom that doesn't cater for the internal GPS on Nokia phones, silly people.

I have both the 6110 and the N95 Black 8Gb, and the latter is a much better piece of kit overall. That's not to say the 6110 is bad, because it isn't, and the Route 66 that comes with it is a perfectly useable navigation aid, if you're happy to manage without the PGPSW cam database. It's also a lot cheaper than the N95. But the N95 gives you a much larger, clearer screen, which is important to me but maybe not to everyone. Plus the 6110 will only cater for a 2Gb card - the N95 has 8Gb built in (which brings problems of its own Twisted Evil Twisted Evil ) but at least I can get a lot of Road Runner cartoons onto it Laughing Laughing

There is a POI converter application for the PC that will upload POI files such as the PGPSW database to the Sygic Drive application, BUT every time I have tried it the resultant positions move about to such an extent it is unusable, I didn't mention this bit in the write up as there was little point - it simply doesn't work. (If the Longitude values were all positive it would work, sadly in the UK we use predominantly negative values) - Mike
