Having had my Mio 168 external GPS reciever hanging around for the last couple of years and not ever being used. Is it possible to convert this to a USB device for use with a laptop. |

The MIO 168 has an inbuilt GPS RECEIVER. It is fed from the foldaway patch antenna on the back of the 168. I suspect what you are talking about is the external ANTENNA. My external patch antenna is a square box with 35mmsides about 12mm thick with a 2m lead terminated with a co-axial plug that fits into the foldaway patch antenna.
If what you are talking about is as above, the answer to your question is NO, as it's not a gps receiver. |

You might get it working using Fransons GPS Gate, which is a software package for sharing the GPS signal between multiple aplications and/ or devices, This Page shows how to set it up for connection via Active Sync and is probably the way you would have to do it with the 168.
You can download a fully functional verson of this software from This page, you get 14 days to trial it prior to purchase so at least you will know it works before it costs anything - Mike |

Thanks both for response, It was just a thought to make use of something thats not being used, iI thought it may be a hopefull question for something thats not essential but if it does become so then it maybe easier to buy a usb gsp reciever, Mikes link intersting but at first seems too much trouble, I thought the main gubbins would be in Unit itself but if you dont ask you never know, many thanks |

It will take you less than ten mins to load and configure that to get it working (most of it is automatic) - Give it a try as it won't cost you anthing to at least try it - Mike |

You haven't clarified what it is you are referring to? Are you talking about the Mio168 or the external antenna?
As has been said, the external antenna is just that, it has no receiver within. Unless connected to a GPS receiver it is useless. The Mio168 has bothe receiver and antenna, indeed its receiver is a SiRFStarIII unit which would not normally require an external antenna at all in the vast majority of conditions. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Sorry, It is as first post although i called it external reciever instead of external antenna, your responses appeared to reflect the correct summation, and i will try when have time, although as said its not a pressing need, but thanks again |
