Hi
I upgraded my NEW tomtom 520 using home and got a flashing red cross.
Following the instrutions from tomtom's web site I have managed to reinstall the tomtom application and have now go it working.
I followed the instructions, but didn't read the bit that said:
Do not delete the files antitheftw.bmp, lowbatteryw.bmp and splashw.bmp (if present)!
So now I have no splash screen or shut down screen.
Can anyone point to to these files online or email them to me ??
THANKS |

I have sent you the three files, once you get these on the device please perform a full backup to your PC, preferably using Windows Explorer as detailed in on the FAQ page (its a sticky thread near the top of this forum index) - Mike |

Thanks mikealder
I only got the 520 a couple of days ago.
Connected it to my PC, installed HOME and backed everything up.
I was then prompted to check for updates and installed the ones offered.
This also upgraded HOME and I lost my backup.
I removed the 520 as advised and got a flashing red X.
I followed the fix from tomtom and it worked, apart from I deleted all the files.. I shouldn't have deleted the 3 bmp's.
My tomtom seems to be working OK apart from the splash screens.. I'll upload the files you emailed me tomorrow.
And preform a BACKUP !!
Thanks |

This also upgraded HOME and I lost my backup. | Glad to hear you got the files as my main PC is on the repair bench as of 19:30 earlier so I wasn't too sure the files actually were sent!
The reason for including the quote is to highlight why we advocate using Windows Explorer for backups, at least you know where the vital files are on your PC, the original Home backup will still exist on the PC but the stupid Home software cannot find it - try a search using Windows Explorer for a file named "splashw.bmp" (without the quotes) and I bet it finds the "lost" backup - but you shouldn't have to jump through hoops like this to get at data - Mike |
