I have a Tom-tom Classic and sometimes use Tom-tom Home on my desk top PC - not a lot as I have had problems in the past and am a bit nervous about it, and have thought that it was device specific.
My son has just purchased a TT 520 - which I think looks brilliant and has loaded his Tom-Tom Home onto his own laptop.
Two Questions.
1.-- Can he plug his new 520 into the house PC and use the Tom-Tom Home which is on it?
I am thinking of getting a TT 920 and the wife will have the Classic, However if I do this
2.-- Will I be able to work both my 920 and Classic on the house PC using Tom-tom Home..
If not - What is the answer?

For each Device that is connected to HOME there has to be a separate email address account.
You could use 2 PC's for the one Device by using the same email address on each.
So - 1 and 2 = Yes. _________________ Richard

So OK then..
This how I read it??
three different tom toms = three different email addresses on the same tom-tom home
Classic = 1 email address
520 = 1 email address
920 = 1 email address
But can all use the same House PC...
I suppose that my son who has the 520 and TTHome on his lap top will have to use the same email address as he has on his lap top.. when using the House PC ??
Is it easy to set up? _________________ Happy to meet -- Sorry to part -- Happy to meet again |

3 TTs = 3 email addresses, all on one PC.
3TTs = the SAME 3 email addresses on any computer.
So, it's
Fire up TT Home on ANY computer.
Attach the Classic, then login with email address classic@internet.com or whatever email address you register it with TomTom.
Attach the 520, login with email address 520@internet.com.
Attach the 920, login with email address 920@internet.com.
There are several people on this website who regularly use a home computer, a laptop and a work computer in exactly this way. _________________ Dennis

Yes, you've got it.
I have one Go720 that I regularly connect to three different PCs, one at home and two at work. I just log in with my email address, and I've downloaded maps on two of those PCs.
A colleague at work has a 700 and a 300 which I "look after" for him, so he has two email addresses which he uses for them. We have downloaded maps on HIS work PC and also one of mine, again no problem. |

What a dimwit I am!! I should have realised that I have three TomToms, a desktop PC, a MacBook and a Toshiba laptop (Vera's) and can connect any or all of them. Put it down to getting demention.
AND the new ISP cable is going to be connected this afternoon, so all my email addresses will be trashed. GROAN! _________________ Dennis

Which is why you don't want to use your ISPs email system!
I use a free mail forwarding service (www.bigfoot.com) which forwards to a domain that I pay for (very little money) which allows unlimited email addresses (you can find the source of spam that way) which are accessed as IMAP folders via Outlook.
I have a SKY email address with my BB but never been near it. |

Which is why you don't want to use your ISPs email system! | Precisely the advice given to me by a good guy (member of this website) who has set me up with a domain (being a stupid, fat old man has its limitations, one of which is how to go about domains). It doesn't have unlimited email addresses, but hopefully enough to help me pick up and choke off the spam sources. _________________ Dennis

But we can't all be tall, dark and handsome either

Very few ISPs provide unlimited e-mail addresses. The only way you can usually get you hands on unlimited e-mail addresses is usually to host your own domain.
ISPs usually provide enough e-mail addresses for most people - the only exceptions are white van men, who register new TomToms every few minutes (claiming that the previous one was faulty..or some lousy excuse ) _________________ Andy

If its any help and just to confirm what everybody else has said i have a Tomtom 500 on one account ,a Tomtom 720 which lasted 2 days and was returned on a another account, and a tomtom 520 on another account .
As has been stated you have to use a different email address for each Tomtom and I think that is were some of the problems were encountered by trying to use the same email address for each Tomtom.
I did not even download Tomtom home from the disc that was supplied I just used the one I already had on the computer
I think Tomtom home picks up which Tomtom is connected by the device number |

Being a stupid, tall, dark and handsome fat old man has its limitations - mostly to do with getting down there to put your socks on. But also to do with domains. Anyway, I'm now a virgin (customer), but the man didn't tell me how to do email accounts, so I suppose I'll have to RTFM. GRRRRRRR!
After I've set up the wireless router. After I've been out and buried the cable. _________________ Dennis
