Why are people picking holes in the new battery pack, which appears to have arrived ahead of the promised date, before anyone has even tried it?

So far, so good...I'm getting impressed. Charged it up for 6 hours, and it has now been running for nearly 12 hours and still showing 3 bars....(it also seems to be a lot better at picking up a signal in my study, but perhaps my imagination.)
Before going to bed, I left it set on Power Saving ..'Always On', Automatic Screen, 'Always On', and Backlight setting is 100%....and as I say, still going strong. I shall now just leave it until it dies.

Interesting, I have also used my battery pack for the first time today. Was delivered yesterday and turned it on with no power save settings at all so I could run the battery down. Charged it up overnight in the car for 12 hours then turned the unit on at 07:45Hrs. It finally died at around 15:00Hrs, which means I have only had a 7 hour battery life.!!!
I will take on board what Mike has said about charging and discharging 6 times, but it was not what I was hoping for.

Did the A10 plot the route of where it went whilst you were in bed? I'm guessing the accessing of the mapping data as it plots routes etc uses as much juice as scrolling in planning mode. _________________ I like mapping, I like mapping, I like mapping and I like to map!

Which may explain why I only got 7 hours battery life, as I was travelling around in the car all day?!?

I spoke to SatMap yesterday about what life we should expect from the new battery pack. I was told that we should be looking at around 15-16 hours with power save settings BUT, there is a new version software due out any time now. This is supposed to help with power drain amongst other things and they are quote "very excited about it"
I said that this is still not the 40 hours first advertised, but was told that this was a figure given out by there marketing people NOT SatMap!!?!!

I totally agree I have twice now used my battery pack with NO power saving settings and have had 7 hours battery life. When I use the batteries that were supplied with the unit when I first bought it, I was getting about 10 hours, but always used power save settings.
I would guess if I had not then the batteries would have died around 5 hours use.

But I presume this firmware update will also improve the life of AA batteries.
When I asked for an expect battery life from 2500mAh rechargables Richard said we are expecting a typical user profile will yield a battery life of approximately 25 hours ....that was last March. _________________ I like mapping, I like mapping, I like mapping and I like to map!
