Hi,

If you hava a TOMTOM with the TMC receiver, could I please ask for you to check something for me....

Try planning a route which will take in the M1, through the Jct10 to Jct6 section - southbound (or North perhaps). I have noticed with my unit that it will Always report traffic problems in this section. There is an appx 9 mile section which is currently contraflow - this can ofcourse be a nightmare, but the TMC will invariably report a delay of over 2 hours no matter what.

I have used this section on several occasion, early morning and late evening, with a reported delay of 2hours 57minutes. On all occasions there was minimal delay - with mostly just slowing down to the mandatory 50mph limit for the 9 mile section. Hardly a delay of nearly 3 hours.

I just checked this on a colleagues TT one unit and he gets the same message.

I also got a similar message for the anti-clockwise section of M25 at Waltham Abbey, last Saturday afternoon - 1 h 25m delay reported, sailed through at 70 mph.........

I have logged this with TT, and have had a long drawn out email conversation, sending photos of the screen with the error etc. The latest piece of advice being "make sure the aerial is plugged in" yeh right Mad

I would really hope that the contact from ITIS that was frequenting the forum could perhaps comment?

So any feedback would be much appreciated - At the moment I cannot trust any of the information that is being received at all.

I am personally satisfied that this is a fault with either the ITIS data, or TomTom's processing thereof.

I find that for every contraflow or lane closure, the delay is over stated. My theory so far is that for every mile of such detail, 16 minutes is inserted as a delay, nothing at all to do with actual delay, simply a formula for that type of "incident". Sadly, your 2 hrs 57 mins comes out at 11 miles, to slightly shoot down my theory. Maybe you could re-measure the length affected (I'm not serious). Hang on! My Autoroute calculates Airport Way to Jct 6 as 11.4 miles so I'm a Smartypants after all! Bouncing

I'm surprised you haven't yet come across the other anomaly - 1 minute delay (e.g. for road closed by accident)?

I too am waiting for the ITIS guy to respond, but he seems to be keeping his head very firmly below the parapet. TomTom, of course, never look over the parapet in the first place!!

I was just wondering if this is specific to tomtom and ITIS , I wonder if anyone with say a garmin and their TMC (trafficmaster data) can try the same stretch of M1 and tell us what it says ?

What version of software is on your TomTom device, it has been reported that the version 7 software miss reports the delays and a few users of the site have had this confirmed by TomTom that they are looking into it - Mike

Yep, Had the 1 minute delay error as well.

I am still a little peeved that TT (at least to me) will not admit that this is even happening, let alone giving some sort of fix date.

As it is, anyone contemplating buying a TT with TMC receiver is basically being charged extra for a function that simply does not work as it should.

Come on TOMTOM and ITIS (?) get this fixed or re-imburse the cost of the TMC receiver......

As far as I'm concerned it's another TT c**k-up! I get exactly the same stupid delay forcasts in France as well. It all worked fine before v7.162. I can't understand why it's taking them so long to find out what they messed up, or maybe they know and couldn't be bothered.
TT really are something else when it comes to customer services

Same problem for me - when I drove down through France to go skiing I think the total delays it prediced were something like 18 hours!! It seemed that anywhere there were roadworks (even though there were no delays) there was a standard 2hrs 30mins delat predicted!!

So unreliable now that its worse than useless.

So is it safe to assume that if the same journey was nav'd and then checked with GPRS Traffic, that this TMC fault would not show up?

Can anyone who has GPRS traffic check/confirm that GPRS is OK please ?

I have both gprs traffic and tmc (greedy I know). I would be happy to check a few locations on both if you can give me a clue where to look.

Just bear in mind how the systems work before you start spending too much time checking things out, the RDS device when connected will disable the GPRS traffic system, also RDS is regional in coverage, so you will see incidents in and around Lincolnshire but not much further afield.

GPRS TMC will give you full country data coverage, but only when the RDS device is unplugged, being located in the UK the unit will only offer UK based traffic information - Mike

What would be useful is to check a route that takes in the M1 southbound between JCT10 and JCT6 - This is where the contraflow reports on TMC a delay of almost 3 hours . If you were then to do the same route but using GPRS, it would at least show if the False data is only on TMC, if the GPRS shows that there is either no delay or a more realistic delay.

Cheers

Nothing showing on GPRS southbound between those junctions.

Can't try the TMC as that location is outside my local area.
