Posted: Tue Feb 05, 2008 8:39 pm Post subject: Zumo Map Update help please!! |
|
|
I have an older i3 and a newer Zumo 550.
I recently updated maps to my i3 with the City navigator North America disc 2008 with no problems.
I then tried it for my Zumo 550 and realized they couldn't install because the maps are preloaded. In doing some online research it seems like I have to do something with some .img file on the unit. I don't want to delete that file (almost 1 GB) then have the unit not work!!
Is there a way to update the maps with this CD-ROM, or is there a completely different Zumo CD that contains files different from my i3?
Thanks in advance...

They are different. The zumo uses CityNavigator NT maps, an update of which will be out in the near future, according to Garmin. _________________ Tim |

TIm.
This is the actual label on the CD - is this the one you're talking about?:

Ah, OK. I didn't realise that the i3 used NT maps. However, how old is your zumo? Didn't it come with a DVD of its own? I'd be surprised if it didn't have 2008 maps on it, to be honest.
Bsides, you'd need an activation code to make the maps usable by the zumo, but if you did (and Garmin only allow one activation per code nowadays) then you could install the maps to an SD card in the zumo's SD slot. _________________ Tim |

I'm using my card slot now for MP3s. But if I WERE to use the card slot for maps, would it overwrite the existing built-in maps?
Thanks again Tim for all your advice! |

No, it wouldn't overwrite your built-in maps, as they are saved on a different medium. _________________ Tim |

I'm sorry, I didn't mean overwrite. I meant how would the unit know which maps to use; either the internal or memory card? |

Damn, you got me this time. I'm afraid I don't know, as I haven't done it on my zumo. When the new maps are released I will, though, as I'll install them to an SD card first, instead of overwriting the originals. _________________ Tim |
