Hi there
Re latest maps. After much thought I have finally ordered a ‘Go 720’ from Amazon. As I have used Tomtom on a PDA since TT3 I am quite aware of the confusion over latest maps. I am also aware that the latest map can differ very little from the previous map.
However, when my 720 arrives I will obviously hope that it will have the latest map of Western Europe. What is the latest map please? And if it doesn’t have the latest map will I have cause to dig my heels in?
By the way, I read the GPS World review on the 920 and deliberated for some time on whether to buy it or the 720. The 920 sure looked brilliant but I just felt that I would be paying for a few features that I would never use. For instance, I doubt very much if I will ever drive in the USA or Canada, and as for Guam, well, very few people even know where it is. But, it is an impressive piece of kit and I have no doubt that it will be a winner. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Latest map version is 710 (or 7.10 depending on who's talking or writing). _________________ Dennis

And the 720 should come with a "Latest Map Guarantee", which means if a newer map exists when you buy (strictly, first use with TT Home) or a new one is released within 30 days, then TT should give you the new one for free. |

Even TomTom themselves can't decide:
From How do I check the version of my application and map?

The map shown above is listed as version 6.50 in our map shop.

It's PocketGPSWorld if you don't mind, GPSWorld is a US website
Did you buy the 720 or 720T? I ask because if you bought the 'T' version, IMHO the price differential between the 720T and 920T models makes the 920 more compelling, especially if you value the remore.
Not only do you get all the maps (which I appreciate you may never need) but you get EPT and the remote. The remote alone is £40 as an extra cost option.
However if you didn't go for the 'T' version then it's far less compelling if you have no need for the maps! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Folks
Thanks for replying. There is (as always) helpful advice in your posts. By the way, Darren, I promise you that I will never use the name ‘GPSWorld’ when referring to this site again. Sorry.
The device that I have ordered is the Go720 (not the T version) from Amazon. I received an email today that it has been dispatched.
Why am I forsaking my Dell PDA/Tomtom 5? Well, to be honest, I don’t s-----g know. My TT5 works fine and….. I think I must have had a rush of blood to my head. When the wife sees the new gizmo she will go bananas.
Am I a man or a mouse. Squeak, squeak, squeak. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.
