Sorry, I don't know the TT ONE. I presume that going back to the shop in Ireland is not an option? So I can only offer useless suggestions, like shout at the thing.
Seriously, I can't understand that the reset wouldn't push in - did you use a small enough poking thing? They usually click dead easy if you get the poking thing into the hole.
Normally with TT devices, the fierce cure is to hold the reset button depressed for several (15?) seconds. To switch on again, hold the power button pressed until it actually starts to fire up. You can try the reset both when it's got power of some sort (green light?) and when it's switched off. _________________ Dennis

What type of TomTom One is it? - does it have a memory card in it or not, if so remove the card and then re-insert it, this will reset the device, although the reset button should be working (have you tried usng a pin) as some of the TT units have a small switch which only a pin will opperate correctly - Mike |

Try eating a steak and then turning them on. I think it's the lack of iron in your blood from just eating veggies! |

Confirmed veggie here, and I can USUALLY summon up enough strength to unbend a paper clip to poke the reset hole with.
Vegnomeat.. If two devices just die in this way without help, you must be really unlucky. Are you sure you've not done anything "unusual"? Unplugging from the PC without either using "safely remove hardware" in the system tray or "disconnect device" in Home, are a good way to trash a TomTom. |

Thanks for the replies gents.
The TT One doesn't have an external SD memory card. Also I haven't unplugged it from a PC as I never managed to get it switched on
TT have agreed to replace the original GO (or don't go) 700 and I have an RMA number.
As for the TT One, the supplier has agreed a full refund when I return the item.
Oh, and I bought a Collins map, worked a treat and never ever failed to open on the right page. Also the pages look like they will last a long time without needing re-printing

My road atlases used to last about six months before they started coming apart. The last two I stitched up to prevent the coil bindings from coming out - it took me considerably longer than setting up the latest pgpsw cameras on my three devices this morning. The road atlas I have on my overhead shelf now, is two years old and almost mint condition since I so rarely pick it up. And the box full of street maps now lives in the shed because they too haven't been use in two years.
Mind you, I'm on my GO720s #6 and #7 (but only on GO920 #1).
For what it's worth, I think the GO700 was close to being the best TomTom device. _________________ Dennis

It did one thing and did it well. For getting from A to B it's as good as the top of the range models. The only drawback is the Chipset, but that's progress.
If TT went back to doing a basic Navigator, without the frills and with no crippled menus, I think they would be on to a winner. _________________ Richard

What I can't understand is why TT's are so unreliable and suffer so many problems.
When I spoke to TT support they weren't in the least bit surprised that the unit wouldn't switch on.
I own a software business and we write software for the electronics industry and support over 3500 customers worldwide.
If my software worked to the standard of TT's I would be catching the bus to sign on instead of driving around in a flashy motor

As I was working away in Ireland and really needed a satnav I purchased the TT One.
Guess what, it wouldn't turn on and the reset button wouldn't push in. Eventually I managed to get some life but am now stuck on a green screen that says "Success!!" Except that it is stuck on and won't turn on, or attache to a PC
Must be me |
As silly as it sounds .... and I am NOT being patronizing .... a user on a North American forum was having a similar problem about his unit and trying the 'reset' with continued frustration .... until he realized he was sticking the pin into the antenna receiver hole and not the true reset hole on the unit.
Just a thought............. |

Just in case dhn is correct check the location of the reset switch on This Page, I know of quite a few x10 devices where the microphone was ruined because people were sticking pins in it thinking it was a reset hole! - Mike |

Also om the x10 Devices the Pinhole is much smaller than any of the other Devices. _________________ Richard
