I thought others might find the following useful in setting up their Shinco GM-400EU to add the speed camera POI data to get visual and audio alerts. My Shinco has Destinator version 5.1.185 which supports multiple favourite alerts with custom map icons and alert sounds by camera type.
The following is based on the contents of the following two threads which were extremely useful in getting me set up:
However, the Shinco is not exactly the same. The Shinco doesn't come with the destinator console app. I've emailed Destinator, Shinco and the supplier to ask about the CD that is mentioned in the manual appendix, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for a response.
You can use the standard alerts and icons on the Shinco, but you will be restricted to a voice which says "Favourites Alert" for all cameras and two map icons; one speed camera icon and one red light camera icon. You can create individual icons and alerts for each camera type, instructions are below or I will send you mine if you like.
These instructions will create five categories in your favourites for each of the camera types (gatso, mobile, red light, specs, temporary) and set them to alert you when you are in the vicinity.
select favorites, tools, add and add five new categories GATSO, MOBILE, REDLIGHT, SPECS and TEMP use the relevant bmp file (standard icons or custom if you have added them). For each category, click the green button to the left of the category name so that it is greyed out. This will make them generate alerts.
Now select tools, settings and check the first alert and second alert and select the desired distance you want to receive the alert at (100 yards, 400 yards etc) and then save.
Now download the speed camera database from pocketgpsworld; Select SatNav System Destinator 3, Camera Selections (UK consolidated by type) then Download
Unzip the csv files and use POIEdit to open each individually (destinator .csv) and save as destinator .dat files GATSO.dat, MOBILE.dat, REDLIGHT.dat, SPECS.dat, TEMP.dat
use activesync to copy the dat files to the \My Documents directory on the device then use mobile explorer to move the files from \My Documents to \Storage Card\DestinatorApps\Destinator\Common\Favorites
I downloaded the icons from pocketgpsworld; Downloads, POI Icons and Converters, Pocket PC and used the following New Speed Camera Database POI icons

The icons need to be 16x16, so i converted them using windows paint and saved them as GATSO.bmp, MOBILE.bmp, REDLIGHT.bmp, SPECS.bmp
Once you have created your icons and alerts, you can use activesync to copy the bmp files and wav files to the device
use explorer to move the files on the device from \My Documents
move the bmp files to \Storage Card\DestinatorApps\Destinator\Common\Favorites
move the wav files to \Storage Card\DestinatorApps\Destinator\Common\Interface\Voice\All

I have been looking everywhere for general info on the Shinco unit and just when I thought I'd made a mistake in buying the shinco - you give me this little fem of info!!
Can't thank you enough - although I don't fully understand the instructions as yet but I guess I will once I start playing. Mine only arrived today and I'm yet to collect it!
How have you found the unit to be in general guidance?
Have you managed to update any software on the unit as yet - or even needed to for that matter?
I'd really appreciate any info you can give as owners of this unit seem few and far between. I know that the Invion units are pretty much a rebrand though.
Sorry to post again but thought it would be worth adding that I have just followed McGoo's instructions for setting up the database on the Shinco device.
IT WORKS A TREAT! Awesome feature and this just makes this device even better than it already was for the money.

Hi trueboy, just picked up your pm and responded. I guess you don't need my bmp files and wav files now, but just let me know if you still want me to send them.
Just a quick note on icon size. You can use 20x20 icons on the shinco. They will be cropped on the favourites menu, but show up bigger (and more visible) on the map.
Cheers for responding. I was wondering about the size of the icons because it would be good to see them more clearly. Thanks for the info and I'll try that at some point.
On another note is there any way on 3d map view to display the street names of the streets in view? I find that a little annoying at the moment.
Despite all this I'm really pleased with the shinco and I'm now exploring any other ways to be able to put other software on it. At the moment I'm a real newbie to all this and I'm stumped at how to get into windows CE to be able to install sofware etc but don't want to ruin it!
Don't suppose you have any info on this?
Cheers again for your help, it appears us shinco users are few and far between so it may take soe time to come up with any more tweaks and mods etc.
The Shinco is basically a pocket pc so i guess you could put more software on it. I saw another thread somewhere on here where another user was doing this.
I have a Pocket PC PDA, so I don't need to do this, but I would say that if you are going to install stuff on your Shinco, make sure you back it up first.

how to watch movie on Shinco GM 350S EU unit ? I know one can watch movies on it, but i dont know which software and how to install it ???
