Can you pen the VERSION file that is paired to the NL zip file and see what version it reports?
Thst will be more definitive than what HOME reports. |
I have just opened the zip files using notepad this is what I got
[description]
ID=nederlandPostal_teleatlas
version=707
[description]
ID=GreatbritainPostal_TeleAtlas
version=701
My version is App 7.221 (572/071121) os:2318 |

I have done nothing to this one Richard. If this is not working i am not sure what else to do. If you can alter it to work properly then carry on. |
I found the only way I could get it to work was to Log In to TTs Website Site. _________________ Richard

I too got Access Denied even though I was logged in to the TomTom site. I thought I would give support a try & ask them how to download the latest file. I got the following repy in 3 minutes.
Quote: | Customer (Alan Thompson) 21/01/2008 04.22 PM
Could you please tell me how to update my postcode file. I believe the latest version is 701, mine appears to be 602. It does not appear to get updated via home.
The map version I have is Western_Europe_1GB v710.1561
Response (James A. (UK)) 21/01/2008 04.25 PM
Dear Mr Thompson,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
For the Postcode Search Function to work correctly on your device, please try the following:
- Connect your TomTom to your Computer and switch it on.
- On a PC, open 'My Computer', you will see the TomTom as a Removable Storage Device, e.g. TomTom (E , double click into it.
- On a Mac, you will see the TomTom device on your desktop, doubleclick into it.
- Check if the SD card / hard drive of the TomTom contains a folder called "zip" and another folder called "tomtom".
- If only the folder "tomtom" is missing, create a new folder in the root directory and rename it to "tomtom". Leave it emtpy.
- If the whole folder "zip" is missing, create a new folder called 'zip'.
- Download and unzip the 2 files by clicking on the links (one for UK and one for NL):-
http://62.250.16.51/customers/Nav/PostcodeWE1GB.zip
- You will see a folder called 'Zip', double click into it. You will see one file.
- Copy this file and paste the file into the 'zip' folder on the TomTom.
When you disconnect your device the postcode option should work for the UK and The Netherlands again (the only 2 countries that operate a proper postal code system).
With Best Regards
The TomTom Customer Support Team

It didn't come with a . ver file, thats why I had a look at the main file to see if I could read it.

Alan, I am not too sure what link TT Support have offered you but it doesn't provide the ver files, try this one instead which we know to be the latest
Postcodes GB 701 NL 704
The only way to have version 707 postcode data for the Netherlands is to be running a 920 device OR a Public Beta test map that has been distributed to certain individuals - Mike |

I downloaded the files you suggested with the ver files. I didn't get acces denied this time.
These had a date modified of 26/4/07
The ones TomTom supplied me with had a date modifed of 14/11/07
Both are the same size.
I know that the date modified doesn't prove which is the latest, but there is a chance that the files Tomtom give me are newer.
I asked Tomtom support about the ver file and here is the repy they sent
Quote: | The version I sent you is for the map version 7.10, each map has its own particular version of postcodes. |

I still get access denied. What about the ones at
http://62.250.16.51/customers/Nav/PostcodeWE1GB.zip
Are they the latest versions? |

There's no .ver files, so how can we tell? That's the gist of this whole topic.
The GB file is smaller than the one I have but the date seems newer.
Have you followed all the advice about being logged in etc. to download the ones referred to above? |

I am now totally confused as I have three different copies of the post code zip file as follows:
From WE1GB
Size 9091Kb Date 14/11/2007 No Version given
From Post code GB701 Link
Size 8861Kb Date 26/4/2007 Version 701
From Map up date on CD
Size 9651Kb Date 21/07/2007 Version 504
Date of file doesn't seem to relate to version number as you would expect later files to be later versions.
It suggests that perhaps Version stated in .ver file may not be correct.
Does anyone have date & size of latest version of Zip File.
