As I was considering buying a S50, but had heard about the issues of the only being able to load 12000 POI's, although people had said the next update would solve that issue, i emailed Navman to see if this was indeed the case.
This is the response i got back:
Quote: | Dear
Unfortunately the SP will not change the amount of POIs you can download. 12000 is the maximum.
The Sp will come out within the next couple of weeks.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Kind regards,
Julia

Thanks for this DonutUK
I have purchased one of these and boy am I wishing I had not. I want to update the speed cameras as half the cameras in my home town are missing from the standard database supplied, god only knows about the rest of the country.
I have also got an issue with connecting my Sony Ericsson K800I mobile to my S50. I have to pair the two everytime I switch the S50 on. My phone is set to connect automaticaly but it never happens. I have to search for phones using the S50 then connect as it was a first time.
Do yourself a really big favour and stay well clear of the S50, I have read many threads on this forum with really good advise on better units and I only wished I had made a member before shelling out my £145 pound.
Good luck

Do you always turn off your S50 completely (press and hold power button for several seconds) or do you just put it in sleep mode (short press on power button)? Pairing should survive sleep mode but it will not survive complete shutdown. |

Thanx TheM
Worked for me again today, left the unit on standby in the kitchen last night, left for work today and the Navman S50 paired with my phone and away I went.
Left it all day again in the glovebox, and came home without having to pair. Can you solve speed camera problems too?

I can't solve 12k limit but if you have a look at PGPSW camera database, almost 8k of their UK camera entries are active and pending mobile camera locations. If you get rid of those (most of them are empty most of the time, anyway), you end up with less than 5k of UK entries which fits on the unit without any problems. If you want to remove Navman's speed camera data from your unit to avoid clashing with PGPSW database and double alerts, check out how to do it here. |

Hi TheM
Thanks for your help again, I've read the post and feel happy that with a little careful reading I might at last try and upgrade the cameras. I'm not too technically minded as you may have gathered and spend most of my day rolling paint onto walls.
I bought the S50 as I wanted a bluetooth type mobile kit to use when driving to jobs, the funny part is that my work is mainly in brand new housing estates and the roads are not listed on the installed maps.
Hey ho, i'll post again after subscription and let you know regarding my outcome.
Cheers

A good proportion of my work is on recently built housing, but you'll find that Navman us very up to date mapping (as good as anyone else, better than most), and the postcode will take you very close if it's not mapped (or at least "addressed" - use Centre of Postcode option)
Think you'll end up very pleased with the result. Most of the time!!! |

Hi Extraseller
I read this post late last night and put your theory to the test today, I was taken off the main road exactly where I needed to and the final destination was at the very start of the new road I am working on.
Very impressed and thank you.

That's no problem - glad it worked for you too!
When you rely on these systems day and night, every day you need to find out about things like that! |

I worked in Preston before x-mas, used my A to Z and needless to say I got lost. I have just been awarded with more work over there so I tried the centre of post code again tonight and feel confident I might arrive on time for a change.
I hope others read this thread as it really is useful to know.
Cheers
