As i don't have my 720 here, she who drives better has it, i am trying to find the postcode folder through the files i have on my computer but i can't.
I can find them for my 910 which is here with me, and the file is version 504 not 514.
I have a trawl and see what i find, i know i have the little fella's, just got to locate em. And sure as hell the 720 will be a later file, er, you would think so.
Seriously though Ian, because i like to remain legal, i should do what Andy advised yourself and mail TomTom for the new postcode file. I paid for the new maps but most definitely have 504 postcode ver file.

You are quite right and between what i have learned here and what TT have told me what seems to be happening is:
When all the x10 models were new they all came with v504 postcodes(like me and you). When you buy a new map you are supposed to get the new postcode file with it(Quote TT). But for some reason that is not happening and you are only getting the map and not the postcodes. So if you send an e-mail like the one Andy done for me, TomTom will reply to you with a .zip download attached to their reply and also instructions on how to remove the old ones and install the new ones. I should also say that TT seem to be responding to their e-mails within 24hrs nowadays so you may well have them for tomorrow night. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

I had 603 on my old 910 with 660 maps and now I have 701 with the 710.
I only had 504 with my 910 and 652 Maps.
So I'm using the 603 that came with a 605 Map for my old Classic GO.
My 910 and 920 were both US bought. Perhaps that was the diff. The 910 came with 6.60 WCE maps
I dont think it should matter were you bought it , if the map covers a country that works with postcodes you should get them also wether you buy it in USA, GB, Netherlands or any country for that matter. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

it wont show a zip file.
For clarity, there is no zip file on the TomTom, (and this is nothing to do with compressed 'zip archives' either)....
The postcodes files are stored in a FOLDER called "zip" (as in American postal 'zip codes'), and the files are called:
Great_Britain.postal
Great_BritainPostal.ver
Nederland.postal
Nederlandpostal.ver
The postcodes will work without the accompanying '.ver' file, that is just used by Home to tell you what version it is (and maybe that is why TT conveniently forget to send it sometimes!).
With it, Home should report the presence of the postcodes files in "Show contents of my device" and report the version number when you click on "show info".
Without it, Home will still report the presence of the file, but will report "no description available" when you ask for "show info".
Thanks Andy, but on my 910 unit viewed on "my computer" i can see the zip folder with the files you mention.
If i check the "downloads in the "documents" folder of my computer where i have the maps i downloaded for the 910 and 720 i can't get into anything other than a gif graphic and a load of code.
I was thinking it might have been possible to extract the latest file from my 720 folder and paste it across.
The better half has the 720 and is working( i use the term loosely) in Italy this week. I will have to be patient or maybe i will hear from TomTom later. I know i would be able to find it on the 720 unit, though.
Thanks again.

I also got a link to download from today, but the link they sent ONLY downloaded the two .postal files. There were NO .ver files, so Home won't know what versions they are. More unnecessary confusion!
I checked the file size against my Go720s ones and the UK one is the same size so I assume I got v701, but the Netherlands one is different, so I've no idea what that one is!
Here are the versions on my Go 720 (v705 maps):
Great_Britain.postal (9,091 KB) = 9,308,529 bytes
Great_BritainPostal.ver reports ID=GreatbritainPostal_TeleAtlas
version=701
Nederland.postal (1,936 KB) = 1,981,476 bytes
Nederlandpostal.ver reports ID=nederlandsPostal_teleatlas version=704
Great_Britain.postal (9,091 KB) = 9,308,529 bytes - the same
Nederland.postal (1,935 KB) = 1,980,837 bytes - different!
The numbers in brackets are the size shown on the normal Windows Explorer screen and the second numbers are what's reported as "size" when you right click on the file and select 'properties'.
Apologies if I shouldn't have posted the link, but TT seems to be handing these out pretty willy-nilly over the last couple of days. Please remove it if necessary.
I was given the same URL a couple of days ago, after querying why the new maps I'd bought hadn't included new post codes. By chance, my daughter was gifted a new TomTom One yesterday (512Mb built-in memory, no SD card slot) and when I backed it up I checked her ZIP folder. The UK postal Code file in there was exactly the same size as the downloadable one, although the TT download site does not provide a VER file.
