|
|
Hi, I'm a total newbie to this and hopefully you can help me. Mid last year I bought a Navigon Transonic 6000TE complete with pre-installed Talex speed camera date. It is totally standard and runs MN6.1 and, I believe, POIWarner but maybe not the full version shown on navigating.de. The original Talex company has gone bust and the last speed camera update on their embeddedtechnology.co.uk website remains at Jul 07. Can I use PGPSW SC database files instead and, if so, which ones (ov2 or csv) and how do I install them? I have read through the many guides and I'm still not sure.
Thanks in advance. |

Nomad56,
You will need to get the full version of POIWarner from navigating.de .
This can then be used to load any custom POIs to the Transonic.
You will then need to download the PGPSW database in .acs format.
POIWarner is an add-on, and does not totally integrate with MN6 (as you will find out if you do a search on this site!), but it is the only way to add custom POI files to a Navigon-based satnav system.
Hope this goes some way to clarifying the situation

Thanks for your reply. I'll look into it.
Is navigating.de the only place you can get POIWarner from? |

Yes, they are the authors. They have English pages is that's what concerns you? _________________ Darren Griffin |

No, I've no problem with their web-site at all, Darren.
I assume from the earlier message that my TS 6000TE has a cut down version of POIWarner that won't accept your database. Why is that? Only being curious!

Ah I see, no it doesn't have POI warner, Talex worked with Navigon so their database was integrated.
Navigon does not support 3rd party POIs and so to use a 3rd party database you need the POI Warner plug-in. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Darren
Thanks for sticking with me here. When I look at the contents of the SD card there is a folder called \MN6\poi\PoiWarner which contains the file PoiWarner.ovm. I believe that this is the file that I downloaded from www.embeddedtechnology.co.uk\downloads\html to update the camera database. Is the naming of them just a coincidence?

Ah interesting. I hadn't realised that it used POI Warner, my apologies.
Even so, I suspect the fact is that the software is different for direct agreements with providers such as Talex. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Before I start please answer me a couple more questions. When I've installed POIWarner, or even before I do, should I delete the POIWarner folder, that's currently on the SD card, and its contents? There's also a separate POI folder full of .png image files for branded fuel stations, car dealers, ATMs, etc. which I assume I should leave alone. Am I correct?
Maybe there's a guide here that I can follow rather than asking questions as I think of them. If so, please feel free to point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Ian

I don't know is the answer I'm afraid. I would install POIWarner first and see if it overwrites the existing files. If it does then fine, if it does not then I would not advise removing them unless Navigating.de can advise that it is safe to do so.
As for the POI folder, do not delete that. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Probably a good idea to take a backup of the card as well just to be safe. _________________ Darren Griffin |
