I’m in the market for my first GPS and finally narrowed my choices to meridians. For similar price I could get
New Gold, Used Platinum and Refurbished Color.
Witch unit would you recommend?
Are compass really useful on platinum?
Do colors helps or it’s just eye candy?
In FAQ I read that Platinum uses about 25% more energy than gold. How match more Color would use (taking into account necessity to use backlight all the time, as mentioned in FAQ)?
All recommendations are welcome. |

Hi Mires,
I would go for the color. I did.
The color display won't use that more batterypower then the Platinum.
You don't have to use the backlight function.
In the daytime the display is very readable.
I use it only at night. And since I use it in the car I power it via the cigarettelighter.
The color display is so much better then a b/w display.
If you use it with batterypower, use good batteries.
Then you could get some 10 to 13 hours of GPS use.
I now have the Color for a year and it is the best GPS I have ever had.
hopes this helps with the decision. |

I've just collected my Platinum and on its first couple of test runs it's proved impressive. Not seen the colour but other people on other lists have reported problems with seeing the colour display in bright sunlight... though something like that is a matter of personal preference (for me the extra cost didn't seem worth it). |
