Is there any way to turn this off? It is :-
a) Distracting.
b) I can no longer read what speed it says I'm doing (red on blue is not good contrast) just when I need it most.
c) It flashes on motorways regularly when keeping up with traffic at speeds now considered acceptable.
d) I understand the TomTom map speeds are not always correct. |

The only way is to turn it off completely .... in Status Bar Preferences. _________________ Richard

No it is not possible to turn this off, you either have speed displayed with the associated flashing red warning when you are over the speed the TomTom map thinks is the applicable limit, or no speed at all and no red flashing - Mike |

Are there any nice 3rd party utilities which will display my speed? I don't think Checkpoint does. and anyway I am on WM5 so don't want anything that slows response to a crawl. |

By whom?
The speed limit on motorways is 70 mph - is this not the speed that is considered acceptable? After all, it is what the law says... |

Mine seems to flash when it hits around 10% above the limit, and of course, not all roads are yet configured in the map to 'flash.' I personally don't find it annoying at all...a quick glance at the speedo when it comes on, 75, maybe 80 on the motorway is enough to keep me in check. |

If you can't read it, how is it distracting?
Seriously, my personal opinion is that this is done to stop boy-racers using them as a speedo when driving too fast (I am NOT suggesting you are one). It's almost the same as saying "you're going to fast - I'm not going to tell you how fast so you'll have to slow down to get the speed display back". There seems to be a lot of nanny-state options in the later releases.
I can't remember which release the "Show max speed next to speed" came in. Not going to go out in the rain to see what happens when you deselect it. _________________ Gerry

If you deselect it, it just shows your current speed, if you've opted for it, whatever that might be. _________________ Richard

You either had No Speed indication, or the combined Max Speed/Speed Displayed. _________________ Richard
