There's doesn't seem to be any maps at all for Thailand from TomTom.
I'm going to Asia and visiting Hong Kong and Singapore and have maps for both of those places - but there seems to be nothing available for Thailand.
Will I still be able to use the TomTom to mark a POI like where I am staying and then use the TomTom to at least point me in the right direction (like a garmin etrex) or is it totally useless without a map for where you happen to be?
I'll be walking everywhere, so having roads isn't so important but it would be nice to make POI's and then simply be told which direction it is in and how far away. |

I think it's totally useless without a map. It will just say "no map available" if you don't have one on the card, or something like "no usable locations near cursor" if you load a different map |

You forgot to mention one other useful part that Off Road nav can give the user, you can add a map image to the device and it will show the map as the back drop, this then shows your position on the map - it won't provide routing or instructions but at least you can see where you are relative to other places.
You will need to find some map images on the internet of the local area you are visiting, then follow the instructions to setup the text file which tells the software which map tile to use (you can have multiple and it will auto switch as you are moving).
At the last Pocket GPS World Expo my 910 was displaying the Open Street Mapping image for the local area (Sandown), and a set of map tiles for Corfu have been tried by a couple of site users with limited success - Mike |

Can OLDER FIRMWARE be placed on a NEW 920 unit? If so, which of those versions on OLDBOY's site would be appropriate?
The idea of wandering around in areas without specific maps seems nice, although BATTERY POWER would definitely be an issue for the 920, I'd think.
Thanks. |
