I have just ordered aTomTom 720T from amazon @ the seemingly bargain price of £205 Primarily for the TMC having read the threads on the TMC systems is there any way of telling what variation of TMC arial is supplied without opening the box(Amazon will not refund on opened box's) I am increasingly beginning to suspect that the low price may be to do with the unit being old stock & not the latest spec not being a techi I do not know what to look for or what to expect.
any advice / pointers will be appreciated |

I would say you have the latest RDS-TMC aerial in the box as TomTom refused to sell the x20T models in the UK until after the the latest RDS version was introduced - Mike |

I thought you were sat there with an un opened box a three week wait for delivery is a long time though these days, although at the price you mentioned it is not surprising they have all gone - Mike |

I am one of lifes people who are subjected to murphys law to the nth degree, having researched the comparison sites for several months the choice came down to garmin 660T or tomtom 720 T having made the choice & ordered the 720t I then find this thread on tom tom & their TMC I thought Murphy had struck again & that I had made the wrong choice, hopefully things will work out fine in the end.
Mike thanks again for you reply

I ordered the 720T from Amazon on xmas day. It arrived on the 28th!!
It came with the latest TMC receiver (ends in .013).
It worked straight away and seems good so far. I live near Rochdale and the traffic symbol is nearly always green when on the motorway, but goes yellow sometimes on the local A roads. |

I am umming and arring over the 720T and the 720. I discounted the 520 as in the sales it is not much cheaper than the 720 and you get more internal memory and european maps from the 720.
However my decision is all around the TMC receiver.
1. Is it any good or is it still as temperamental as anything?
2. Is it worth £25?
3. Can it be bought later, i.e. can you just buy the accessory at a later date and it will work or is there additional software installed on the T?
Thanks for your help. |

I hope these are of some help to you.
1. It really depends on the area you are in as some people think it works well and some say that they dont get a signal in their area.
2. If you would use it then it is worth the £25, Although let us know your area and the area you will use it most before you buy.
3. You can buy it later but it will probably be more expensive than £25 and there is no additional software needed, If you are running v7.xx it will work straight from the box. if you buy it later make sure you get the latest reciever by checking the last three digits are .013 on the reciever itself. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

I am in West Sussex but normally I'd not use the TMC that much it will be when we go off camping and we go to Wales, Cumbria, Devon etc.
It's just a thought that if ew need one we could try ebay in 3-6 months or something.
It's just determining how good it is and how much use it'd be. |

I did get it working yesterday after trying loads of different arial posistions, the one that seemed to work in my area (Lincolnshire) is up the right hand side to the top of the windscreen. Then I was running it along the top with no joy. The sucker came unstuck and I had about a foot dangling from the top corner of the windscreen and it locked on fine. So I have now stuck it to the drivers side window and it stayed locked on all over my area. Wether it will work when I venture outside Lincs I don't know yet.
Thanks for asking. |

It's on TT website as an accessory, priced £49.99. _________________ Dennis
