|
|
I have a ONE XL, and have been trying to connect to it and get data in NMEA format.
I've used Bluetooth Console (http://www.webazar.org/tomtom/bluetooth.php?lang=uk) to connect to it via Bluetooth, and this seems to work fine. However, I can't seem to get the ONE XL to transmit the NMEA data (by using the cat \dev\gpsdata\ command).
I've searched the web a bit, and have found some suggestions that the ONE XL doesn't have a NMEA interface, but some type of binary one. Does anybody know if this is true?
If this is true, it greatly limits what you can do with it, all the 3rd party software out there (such as GPS TrackMaker), uses NMEA to connect to GPS units.
Does anybody have an information about the new binary format and if any tracking/logging software out there can connect via it?
Thanks |

Stuart, that comment is for the x10, and it isn't true any more anyhow, TomTom changed the x10 back to NMEA after the Sirf desaster.
The One XL does indeed behave differently than all the others. Interesting _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the replies.
I've played around with sirfreset a bit, but it didn't seem to have an effect (However, I'm new to this game, and didn't really know what I was doing!). I think you are right that it has the Globallocate chipset, and therefore the sirf commands are no longer valid.
When I do run /dev/gpsdata and redirect the output to a text file, the file is full of garbage. I guess this indicates that it is outputting some type of binary file. I hoping there is a way to switch this to NMEA format, but I have no idea what the command would be.
Any idea if you can get a list on all the commands?

can you please be a bit more precise? It's mostly busybox anyhow. _________________ Lutz

Like I say, I'm new to this, so its a bit difficult to be precise.
I'm presuming that sirfreset was a command written by tomtom to control the SiRF chipset. I'm also presuming that they have written another function to control the new Hammerhead chipset.
What I want to know is how can I get a list of commands which are available. One of them may be the one to control the output from the new chipset.
Or maybe I'm just grasping at straws here...

well, go through the /bin folder and all the other folders and look for yourself. we're all chasing the black cat in the dark room. If you find something, let us know. _________________ Lutz

OK, I finally got it to work.
Once your are connected to the XL you need to run this command
cat /var/run/gpspipe
This then starts to stream out the NMEA data.
I got this info from here

would you have a direct link to download the software? I've looked all over the page and the software download link brings you to:
http://web.tiscali.it/macri/Event_Logger/Download.htm
which then has a link that brings you right back to the main page. |
