|
|
Hi, just joined the forum paid my subscription and have now got lost in the database downloading jungle
I've got a Garmin 2720 so followed the instructions to download the Garmin POI loader database. I now have a file, which says it's a "gswpg-speed-cams" which when opened, doesn't run but seperates into different files, none of which run and none of which even hint at downloading to my gps.
Can anybody help please?
Thanks

Is that from this Website or a Garmin Database?
Did you right click on it, then 'Extract All'?

You use POILoader to load the files to your GPS.
Full instructions are Click Here |

Thanks for your replies guys.
Hadn't opened up the POI from garmin.....Doh!!!
All sorted and now loaded onto the unit.
Just one other thing, how often are you notified of updates on the site? |

Which database are you using Garmin's or PGPSW? |

I believe it is PGPSW as I downloaded from this site not the Garmin one. |

The reason they asked was that the filenames you mentioned were not the ones you'd get from here...
The downloaded zip archive should be called "pgpsw-speed-cams-xxxxx.zip" (where xxxxx is a unique code for that particular download) and when you unzip the archive file you should get a bunch of .csv files (the data) and .bmp files (the icons).
The exact number and names of the files will depend on which version you opted for but they would all be something like "pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.csv"
Anyway, you seem to be OK now, so to answer your "how often" question,
the database is updated at least once a month (usually at least twice or more).
The best way to be notified when a new version is released, is to go to the "Dedicated Subscribers" section of the forum, and find and open the post called "Announcement: The latest PocketGPSWorld.com Speed Camera release" (it's always near the very top, above the "sticky" topics).
Then click on the "watch this topic for replies" link at the very bottom of the page (on the left) and you will then get an email every time the database is updated as an new post is made in that locked topic by the database administrator. |

Andy many thanks for your reply. If, like me, you're not too cmputer literate some of this stuff seems like hard work but your reply has helped unravel some of it for me.
