|
|
I am attempting to free up some INTERNAL space on the 920. There are a large number of folders and files. I was wondering if anyone had a comprehensive list of what they are? Some are pretty self-explanatory but the others are less so.
I have made a backup, actually, now a few backupSSS. But I would not want to remove anything that would make access impossible.
Interesting, that the preinstalled mp3 files are marked HIDDEN.
Can I just REMOVE GUAM by highlighting all of its files and deleting them? Or is there a FORMAL way to remove maps that SHOULD be used? I don't think I will be there anytime soon.
Anything else that can be removed without messing up too much.
Thanks. |

you can simply remove the whole map folder.
Check out the LoquendoTTS folder. It may contain a lot of Text-to-Speech voices that you may never use. Each of them uses up about 40 MB.
Apart from that - you don't really need the RASTER folder. Everything else is more or less vital. _________________ Lutz

Thanks. I gather the rasters are merely the jpgs that show if you zoom out a lot.
Well, hopefully, a functioning 4gig SD card will arrive tomorrow providing a bit more breathing space to fool around. |

Whilst removing the Guam map folder and unused voices etc will free up some room, I would as you have done, simply obtain a memory card. easier and less likely to result in issues later on! _________________ Darren Griffin |

I usually remove all license files in languages I don't use from the "license" and "ASR" folders with no ill effects. |

There's also a demo.avi file that's fairly large and can be removed without any problems, but I can't remember exactly where it is and my wife has the 720 today. |

You haven't actually said what you want to reclaim this space for...
But as, on the x20 models, you can actually use the SD card at the same time as the internal memory, I'd just do as others have said.
Leave the contents of the internal memory as it is and just get a big SD card for your mp3s, pictures etc. |

Make sure you have a FULL WINDOWS EXPLORER backup before you start deleteing anything, don't rely on TomTom HOME for your backups. _________________ Audi A3 Sline sat nav |

Thanks for the various tips. Yes, I now have a few backups (my own drag/drop under Explorer as well as Home's version) and even yesterday took advice and made a DVD which has copies of the INTERNAL, SD (small 128meg right now), and various files I've already downloaded and even a set of firefox bookmarks for TomTom sites.
I am interested in the 8gig card Mike got working but they do not ship to the US. And since I tried a 4gig Kingston which did not work, I prefer finding ones that actually are known to work - too much hassle and/or restocking fees if you return an open one. |
