Connect to the PC, and with Explorer (Turn HOME off if it starts), find the File MapSettings.cfg in the Map Folder.

Right Click the File and Select Properties. Check that the Read-only Box is not ticked. If it is, un-tick it and OK out.

thanks for replying
the read only box is not ticked but the archive box is.
i was using the beep no 5 file for warning me if i went over the speed limit in the safety preferences menu but then i stopped using it for that and used the bugle sound file instead.
Ever since the sound file beep 5 does stay linked to the
" warn when poi is near".
but i want to use the same sound file (beep no 5) for the speed limit warning and the camera database.....is this not possible ?
surely you can use the same sound file for lots of different warnings ?
thanks again
Darren
ps just tried again this morning and the warn when poi is near sound has gone back to the bell no 1 sound Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

If you have a "day one" backup, try copying the MapSettings.cfg file back onto the TomTom from that.
Otherwise, I THINK that if you just delete it, the system will create a new blank one. You'll lose all your favourites and recent destinations as well as your warn when near settings, but with a bit of luck it will behave from now on.
