|
|
Hi
After spending every day, hour after hour, driving in the london traffic at the regulation 11mph, I am always kept cheerful buy the outrageous estimates TT gives for the arrival time!
Sometimes it takes 15 minutes to move 1/2 a mile in someparts but TT states 2 min! ha ha
Is there any way of getting real?
Thanks |

Or you could turn off the Arrival Time in Status Bar preferences. _________________ Richard

SatNavs are DUMB. They have very small brains.
All they have is a list of road types and a default speed for each of them. They add up the bits of each type on your route and give you a figure.
They have no idea about individual conditions on a particular road.
If you drove the route at 4am it would probably be quite accurate, but to do any better in congested periods, it would need an entire look-up table for every road in the country with different speeds for time of day, day of the week etc. and present generation machines are just not clever enough.
Real-time updates like "Traffic" are the only way to go, but are obviously in their infancy so far. |

So why does TomTom ask your permission to collect, anonymously, data about time taken etc when you plug in? _________________ Dennis

Does it?
I remember it asking to collect data about SOMETHING, but I said "no thank you" VERY firmly, so haven't seen it since.
Makes sense to use collected data to adjust time taken on certain roads, but I maintain that present day TomToms and the like can't use it and the OP was asking if there was anything HE could do to adjust it, which he can't. |

TomTom Home ... Preferences ... Sharing Preferences - Enable collection of anonymous usage statistics.
Yeah, right - I also said NO of course. But it's almost a startup default setting, so if you're a sweet innocent young thing, you're likely to agree to it. _________________ Dennis

I believe I can confirm that, indeed, the collection request is the default. I just had reason to restore to factory settings; sure enough, first time I conneccted to TTHome, got asked to share anonymous data ... again.
Like you, I declined. |
